Anna Regina teenager succumbs 13 days after drinking poison
Sixteen-year-old Ferana Mohamed of Anna Regina Squatting Area in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) on Friday succumbed to her injuries at the Suddie Public Hospital 13 days after drinking a poisonous substance in her bid to commit suicide.
Earlier, in an interview, Mohamed had related to Guyana Times that she was having problems with her husband and in-laws.
She related that she drank one mouthful of βgramoxoneβ out of frustration. Guyana Times understands that she was a mother of one and recently got married.
Other cases
Only Wednesday last, a 43-year-old market vendor was rushed to the Suddie Public Hospital after she attempted to end her life. The mother of four is presently hospitalised after reportedly ingesting half a glass of βgramoxoneβ. According to information reaching Guyana Times, the market vendor, Nalinie Persaud, had a heated argument with her husband. She became frustrated and drank the poisonous substance. She was taken to the Hospital by relatives. Her condition is still listed as critical.
Twenty-two-year-old Nelina Ramesh of La Belle Alliance, Essequibo Coast, who had ingested a quantity of medication in her suicide bid, has been discharged. This newspaper understands that 24-year-old Yosoda Munniram from Fairfield who also attempted suicide took self-discharge from the Hospital and went home.
The other cases of attempted suicide: Sushelia Khemraj of San Souci, Wakenaam and 20-year-old Savita Sursattie aka Bindu from Golden Fleece Estate are still hospitalized.
