By Zaheer Mohamed Annai Secondary have booked their passage to the next round following a 5-2 win over Bush Lot Secondary when the Digicel schools football tournament continued yesterday at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue.
Naidison Daniels and Orville Daniels netted twice on either side of halftime to lead Annai rout on a heavy surface. Annai took the lead in the 11th minute when Naidison Daniels headed home after he was fed by Sherral Daniels from outside the box. However, Bush Lot fought back and found the equaliser in the 20th minute through a volley from Ntini August. Annai kept increasing their pace but Bush Lot were equal to the task in the earlier stages. Annai continued to press forward and won a free kick just outside the area, but Sherral Daniels attempt went over the cross bar moments before he was denied by Bush Lot goalkeeper Shemar Hope attempting a shot from outside the 18-yard box. Orville Daniels missed a golden opportunity minutes later-with Hope still to re-gain his footing, he sent his strike wide of the net after being sent clear by Naidison Daniels. Naidison Daniels stretched the lead in the 35th minute with his second goal, beating Hope from the right side of the box before a defensive error by Bush Lotβs Terry Gordon resulted in an own goal. Tyrone Miller reduced the lead in the 40th minute, beating goal-keeper Leston Smith from within the box as the teams went to the break at 3-2. Annai continued to attack and Sherral Daniels had a shot from 30 yards out well saved by Hope before Orville Daniels netted his first in the 60th minute from inside the area. Bush Lot found it difficult to match their opponents in the second stanza. Naidison Danielsβ nimble foot work upfront proved too much for Bush Lotβs defence, but after eluding two defenders, Hope managed to keep out his initial shot before tapping his rebound over the bar to deny him a hat-trick. Orville Daniels then slotted home his second in the 72nd minute after he made a run-in from the left side of the area.
