Another AFC stalwart bites the dust –for committing the most cardinal of sins

THE exodus from the AFC continues as another AFC Executive member and former General Secretary, Mr. Sixtus Edwards has resigned with immediate effect from the Party. It is anyone’s guess why he resigned at this crucial point in time.Mr. Edwards was with the AFC since its conception in 2005, and has worked assiduously to build the Party from scratch. He maintained and built a data-base of members, and ensured that the membership of the Party continued to grow.

He is respected by all as a no-nonsense individual of integrity and self-respect that is par excellence, but his cardinal sin was that he dared to call for financial accountability within the AFC, much to the chagrin of the AFC cabal led by Ramjattan.
I was there at the 2012 AFC Conference where he spoke openly and without fear of the need for financial accountability, and for all monies to be deposited in a bank account to be disbursed only when such disbursement is authorised by the Finance Committee. He always complained about ‘a one-man Finance Committee’, and the deliberate violation of the Party’s Constitution.
Little did he realise that the AFC’s rigging machinery was in process as he was giving his report, and that that would be his final presentation as the General Secretary. David Patterson, the relative of one of the Founding Leaders, was already selected by AFC’s ‘fat cats’ to replace him.
Mr. Edwards was also the head of the inquiry into the alleged malpractices of Dr. Ramayya with regards to Party funds during the 2011 Elections campaign; and he found that Dr. Ramayya was guilty and should be disciplined. However, the Leader of the AFC declared at a press conference that the entire episode was one of ‘misunderstanding and miscommunication’. They did not touch Ramayya, because they knew that they were in the same boat; so they cannot rock the boat. Mr. Edwards was not even aware of this development until he saw it in the press.
Many persons, including executive members, have moved away from the AFC, as the AFC has moved away from all its founding principles; violated its own Constitution and condoned corruption, cronyism, mismanagement and misappropriation of donations, and many will continue to do so. Moreover, they have witnessed the treacherous and unpatriotic nature of the AFC when they joined with APNU to stymie social and economic progress in this country with their nefarious budget cuts and their continued unyielding support of the APNU, to the point of forming a coalition; a coalition proposed by the AFC!
Many persons who voted for them will not forgive them for their treachery; it was one of the founding principles that the AFC will remain independent. It has been the modus operandi of the AFC that anyone who challenges their wrongdoings will either be side-lined until they resigned, or be expelled from the Party. It is a surprise that Mr. Edwards took so long to make this inevitable decision; but he is always a person who deliberates well.

AFC is a rotten and stinking bunch. They run around talking about corruption while thy are a very corrupt bunch and are quick to cover up corruption.

The stench of AFC's corruption is unbearable.

Click on the images to view photocopies of cheques supplied by an undercover operative which show that even as the Alliance for Change(AFC) accuse the National Industrial Commercial Investment Limited(NICIL) of being part of corrupt activities by the government one of its senior members, Moses Nagamootoo received millions of dollars from that entity. Payment were made as recent as July in 2011.

Agreed. Politicians are corrupt everywhere. Grease their hands and they move mountains for you.

The problem here is that the AFC is no exception and they are the  most deceptive. They can't claim to be the champions of fighting corruption and they are the most corrupt and to add more insult, the cover it it.

Theft is Theft.

Small time thieves are the same as big time thieves.

Give them access to the national treasury and just see what happens.

A thief is still a thief, big or small.

Most politicians are thieves and scoundrels. Some even hide their sins behind their religion. Not worth the cuss down to defend any politician. You may know him, but when you leave, you were just a face...forgot your name etc.

AFC is  corrupted and they are not even in government. IMAGINE if they are elected. They are all thieves, PNC thief and left nothing, AFC in partnering with APNU to learn how to thief on a grand scale. The PPP without a doubt are thieving, but they are leaving some for the people. As an old Guyanese still dreaming of the good old days, I would like to see the crime rate drop, employment rise and poor must not be hungry. Maybe, I am still dreaming, but why not have the APNU join with the PPP and form a united government, this way Blacks, Brown, Yella, and dugla are all happy. Cheers.

Pres. Ramotar’s tenure has been a complete failure – Granger

December 20, 2014 | By | Filed Under News

By Kiana Wilburg

After assessing the performance of President Donald Ramotar’s administration for the past three years, Opposition

Opposition Leader, David Granger

Opposition Leader, David Granger

Leader, David Granger unequivocally concluded that the government has been nothing but a complete failure. The Leader of A Partnership for National Unity (APNU), made this statement to members of the media yesterday at his end-of-the-year press conference, which was held at the Herdmanston Lodge, 65 Anira Street, Queenstown, Georgetown. Granger asserted that Ramotar, in a friendly review of his tenure conducted by the Government Information Agency (GINA) on December 12, described his three year tenure of office as ‘mixed’. The politician reminded that Ramotar was sworn in on December 5, 2011, but opined that the reality is that his Presidency is worse than ‘mixed’ for it has simply failed in its most vital aspects. He cited some of these as democratic governance, public security, youth strategy, control of public finance, public health strategy and infrastructural plans. Granger said that President Ramotar will be forever remembered as the one who inflicted the greatest damage on parliamentary democracy by his November 10th, prorogation of the Parliament. He reminded that Guyana’s National Assembly has not met to discuss the people’s business for five months. Granger remarked that the outrageous prorogation of Parliament was Ramotar’s way of avoiding debate on his own performance and that of his cabinet. He has failed, moreover, to conduct the prescribed periodic Local Government Elections provided for and protected by the Constitution, the Opposition Leader said. Granger then pointed to what he described as a failed public security strategy in which  he pointed out that Ramotar and his Minister of Home Affairs, Clement Rohee have neglected to make Guyana safe for citizens and investors. He said that the combination of corruption, cronyism and other crimes has taken a toll on the quality of life.

President Donald Ramotar

President Donald Ramotar

The APNU Leader said that the number of armed robberies is increasing. Banditry in the hinterland, maritime piracy along the coastland, fuel smuggling, gun-running, contraband and suicides, Granger said, continue to propel a high rate of emigration to safer countries. With regard to youth strategy, he said that Ramotar has no plan for providing jobs for thousands of young people who leave school each year, and that unemployment is the central issue affecting young people. The Opposition Leader also said that Ramotar’s Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport Frank Anthony, has been unable to produce a comprehensive National Youth Strategy in the eight years that he has occupied that post. The politician also commented on the failed control of public finance by Minister of Finance, Dr. Ashni Singh who he reminded had to be referred to the Committee of Privileges twice this year, because he refused to comply with rules of the National Assembly. He mentioned that Resolution 15 was passed in the House which required Dr. Singh to lay a report on all extra-budgetary agencies, including the Guyana Development (Lotto) Fund and that of the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission. He highlighted too, that it also directed that the Finance Minister pay all monies being held by those agencies into the Consolidated Fund but this is yet to be done. Granger then commented on what he deemed to be a failed public health strategy. On this front, he said that the Minister of Health, Dr. Bheri Ramsaran has failed to implement a comprehensive pubic primary health care plan. He noted that the country is still frightened by recurrent reports of outbreaks of the Chikungunya disease, and that the persistence of other vector-borne diseases such as dengue, filaria and malaria remain a threat to public health. As for the public infrastructure plan, he said this leaves much to be desired and the public works sector performance has earned an “F” grade. Granger informed the media that President Ramotar inherited a bundle of flawed public infrastructure projects from his predecessor, Bharrat Jagdeo. “He had no strategy of his own and failed to record a single success. The contract to construct the road to the Amaila Falls Hydro project had to be withdrawn from Synergy Holdings. The Atlantic Hotels Inc project, popularly referred to as the Marriott Hotel project is still mired in controversy. The Cheddi Jagan International Airport extension project faces challenges as a result of poor planning on the part of the Government. The 560km Fibre Optic Cable Project managed by the President’s son, Alexei Ramotar is in jeopardy. The contract for the Specialty Surgical Hospital awarded to Surendra Engineering Corporation Limited has to be terminated on grounds of fraud and non-compliance,” Granger lamented. On that note, the Opposition Leader reminded of another report by GINA which quoted Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Roger Luncheon as saying that the government has not been able to achieve the objectives of the prorogation.  But that is an understatement, Granger opined. He said that Ramotar has not been able to achieve any meaningful objectives on anything, be it in democratic governance, economic development, human safety and social cohesion. The politician concluded that the Donald Ramotar Presidency has failed. Granger’s comments were strongly supported and reiterated by APNU General Secretary, Joseph Harmon. Even as he criticized the Government, the Opposition Leader was asked to describe his coalition’s performance in the National Assembly. “Excellent, pass, splendid, magnificent…” Granger remarked promptly. Asked also if he could back up his grades with evidence that his coalition tried to stop those things for which the government ‘got an F grade,’ Granger said that his coalition has worked tirelessly to halt many of the abuses of the state resources, has increased the level of scrutiny and continues to struggle to ensure Guyanese have a better life

Guyana is where we were in 1992. People desperately want a change. They are tired of the present government.

We have moved from dictatorship (PNC) to democracy(1992, PPP Jaganite), to kleptocracy, PPP Jagdeoite.

The PPP has lost its way and now operates for the new parasitic bourgeoise, not the working class.

The reason the people would all be happy would be because as soon as this union becomes, they'll be kicked out, the people don't wish the same two parties from the past lead them down that same winding,treacherous,road...together.

This would be the peoples mantra

The PPP has showed no inclination to reach out to other parties and interests after it became a minority.

That's not in their way of thinking. PPP Jagdeoite is about triumphalism.  The bulk of the Jagdeoites are not people with any working class background or history of struggle against the old PNC dictatorship.  This includes Jagdeo, Ashni, our famous Chat-3, Manickchand, Webster, Burkett, Benn, and most of their top people. The new parasitic bourgeoisie wants it all for themselves. They see government as a mechanism for amassing riches and they have shown it by their conspicuous consumption. They have expanded the NICIL concept to treat public funds as their personal piggy bank, and so why will they want to share this pot by forming coalitions with the other parties.

I used to be angry with Freddie for calling the PPP an administrative dictatorship, but Freddie is right.  The PPP Jagdeoite became a minority govt and it did  not see the need to reach out.

The PNC at least showed some level of political maturity in reaching out by giving parliamentary seats to the paper-parties in the APNU coalition.  The WPA and other so-called parties are virtually non-existent parties without any following, yet the PNC brought them in and gave them seats which they will not have won on their own.  That shows some maturity.

In the same way that the PPP of today, is no longer the party of Jagan - it is a new party, the PPP Jagdeoite, in the same way, the PNC of today is not the Burnhamist PNC. The PNC Grangerite, does not practice the violence of the Burnhamist PNC; they are more restrained in tactics, and I think that's a wise strategy.

If the PNC comes out with an apology to the nation for the Burnhamist years of rigging, violence and anti-people policies, it will go a far way in winning people's confidence. If they promise the nation that the PNC will not ever go back to their Burnhamist policies and practices, it will get some forgiveness and win new support.

An interesting post. And here lies the problem. People, especially the indians are fearful of voting for the APNU since there is the gerneral belief that they may be taken back to those times of long lines and food shortages. I honestly don't think so. But APNU is not presenting this case to the Guyanese populace. They seem to focus more on the PPP corrupt practices rather than their reform strategy.

The AFC is back tracking on their promise not to sleep with the enemy.

The PNC is a lost sheep since they became leaderless.  A handful of coolies who used to cuss black people now wants to lead them out of the wilderness..

Mr. Ramakant:

The AFC has 2 enemies -  the PNC and the PPP Jagdeoite.  Of these two, the PPP Jgdeoite is the bigger evil; PNC Grangerite is the lesser evil.  To be fair, Granger is not a Burnham, Hoyte or Corbin.  The PPP cannot point to any specific wrongdoing of Granger, except that he was a senior member of the military when Burnham was dictating. Under Granger, the PNC has become tamer.  Granger has moved away from the old PNC violent street protests of burning and looting.

The greater evil (PPP Jagdeoite), a minority govt, has become an administrative dictatorship (as Freddie puts it). Whereas the PNC (Burnhamite, Hoyte, and Corbinite versions) violently stole the people's votes by active sins of commission), the PPP Jagdeoite has stolen the people's right to vote, by its sins of omission, in failing to hold local government elections.

Because of the Constitution, the party with the largest block of votes gets to win.  To get rid of the PPP Jagdeoite, the only option is to work with the lesser evil. This is pragmatism.  In politics you have to be flexible in tactics.
