The Community Action Component (CAC) of the Citizens Security Programme (CSP) of the Ministry of Home Affairs has been gaining momentum as it continues to positively impact the lives of hundreds of youths and single parents across country.
The programme which began in 2010 has been providing youths and single parents with the second opportunity to become marketable in several skills areas including catering, cosmetology, electrical installation, plumbing, computer repairs and garment construction.

The programme targets youths between the ages 14-25 years who had dropped out of school or have never attended school.
On Friday, Minister of Home Affairs Clement Rohee and other officials from the Ministry and the CSP attended the graduation ceremony as another batch of 108 youths and single parents from Sophia graduated after completing a six- month training programme in several skills.
Minister Rohee in his address to the graduants urged them to become role models for other youths in the community and to “continue building on the knowledge that you acquired from the programme for the betterment of yourself and community”.
“Keep marching on the road to success and don’t allow yourself to be distracted …follow your dream and always be passionate about what you are going after with full speed ahead,” Minister Rohee urged.

During his inspirational discourse, he also urged them to continue working together to remove the stigma that many have in their minds about Sophia.
The CSP was launched in 2007, while the CAC began in 2007 with the aim of addressing crime and violence through social development strategies.
The goal of the CAC is to assist communities to become sustainable in their function as a neighborhood in which all persons are included in the creation of a safe environment and young people are provided with opportunities that will prevent them from participating in criminal and violent activities.
Community Action Specialist of the CSP, Roseanne Purnwasie who was also present at the graduation said that programme has brought much improvement to the community, as it relates to reduction of crime and violence.
During the programme, she said youths were also engaged in crime prevention sessions.
CAC like several other programmes, including the National Training Programme for Youth Empowerment (NTPYE) and, the Board of Industrial Training (BIT) form part of the fundamental principles of the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) administration to ensure the equitable access to education by all its citizens.
