A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) on Friday and Saturday visited Mon Repos and
Lusignan on the East Coast and called for local government elections.
On Friday, the Partnership conducted an outreach exercise in Lusignan. The APNU team
which was headed by Opposition Chief Whip Amna Ally and included, Dr. George Norton
MP, Ronald Bulkan MP, Annette Ferguson MP, Christopher Jones MP , and Region 4
Councilors Ramrattie Jagdeo and Shondel Hope, toured the Lusignan Market. An APNU
release said that the team also walked about the village interacting with residents
and sharing out material pertaining to Local Government elections and APNU’s
position on the Anti –Money Laundering and the Countering of the Financing of
Terrorism legislation.

On Saturday, the release said that APNU conducted a similar exercise in the Mon
Repos area. The Mon Repos team was led by leader of the Parliamentary Majority David
Granger and included several Members of Parliament and regional leaders.
The release said that APNU noted the deplorable condition of the public
infrastructure in both Mon Repos and Lusignan, especially the clogged drains and
irrigation canals and the pot-holed, unpaved roads.
APNU blamed the conditions on a lack of a coherent infrastructure policy and the
lack of a comprehensive plan by the government.

β€œAPNU feels strongly that the lack of such a plan and the absence of  a strong
democratically elected Neighbourhood Democratic Council has impaired economic
development in local government areas such as Mon Repos and Lusignan. APNU calls for
early local government elections”, the release said.
