Living in dread of the police

January 13, 2012 | By | Filed Under Letters -- Source

Dear Sir/Madam,

I wrote many letters concerning my situation and I pleaded with someone high in authority to investigate the harassment that I am facing from the La Grange police.

I reside at 37 La Grange Public Road West Bank Demerara I occupied the bottom flat of Aunt Janet Codrington’s house. I have three children and a wife who depend on me.

My occupation is a carpenter/mason and at home I rear sheep, goats, pigs, chicken and ducks. The land owned by my aunt where I am living has four houses. I am occupying the bottom flat of the first house for which my aunt is the legal transport holder.

Since her husband died in July 2010, my aunt asked me to move in with my family and to stay with her. On the 3rd of Feb 2011 Lakeram Mangar came with document claiming to be half share of the said house.

With the help of La-Grange police,  Lakeram Mangar gained entry to the top flat of the first building along with a woman and her two daughters. This said building is in dispute between my aunt and Mr. L. Mangar in High Court.

Sir, I was comfortable along with my aunt, wife, children and other relatives until these people moved in the house. The moment these people moved in I could swear that they were trouble makers. They would call in the police on my aunt for no particular reasons.

β€œSir”, I refuse to give any attention to them. The woman began calling me all sorts of names (antiman). I still ignore them. This woman became even more abusive to me by throwing water and spitting on me, whenever I pass in or out of the yard, while the girls will laugh and mock at me.

The woman once told me that she will make my life a living hell and that I will have to move out of the house. She also said that she will accuse me of raping her if I don’t move.

Mr. Manger is a deportee from the United States. He would call on me to fight whenever he is drunk.

He would bang on my door to fight. It is to my displeasure that I was locked up 102 times by the black clothes police, sent by Mr. Manger and his woman. On each occasion I would be released the following without being charged or told anything.

I would like to know how can the police harass a person like that?
My life is a total hell; I am living in fear and am calling out for help from someone who is in higher authority.

At present I have to hide from the woman and Mangar. The moment they see me they call the black clothes on me β€œjust for fun”.

I am totally fed up with this nonsense, how long can I live in this? Why do they keep accusing and terrorizing my aunt and me?
