I gave my answer but folks don't want to tough that subject.  Reality is a Guyanese Indian is an Indian first and then something else after. Black Guyanese are Guyanese first and less wedded to being black.  And in fact were Guyana not so ethnically polarized, would probably not even dwell on it.

The two groups have very different ways in how they relate to Guyana.  I doubt if the PPP wins one will see blacks cheering on a Venezuela invasion as some Indos seem inclined to do when the PPP loses.

the easy answer is this.  Blacks see themselves as Guyanese who happen to be black.  Indians see themselves as Indians who happen to be Guyanese.

The other thing is that the old PNC used to treat Guyanese Indians as second class citizens causing many Indians to see themselves that way.

Note, the members here are not a representative sample of the Guyanese public. There is a skewing of the curve towards the more rabid drooling party supporters on both sides. 

Guyanese are among the most patriotic people. They are always seeking community of kind and supporting the society at home.

I went to school in England and at Howard with Nigerians. Howard had as many Nigerians as West Indians. None...let me say this with no reservation...none of them have in my presence ever uttered an unkind word about black Americans.  Many of these students were from the elite class in Nigeria and were very rich.  As a matter of fact,  they were keen to emulate them in lots of ways.  Maybe the community selects for people of that kind.  The remarkable thing is on campus no one had ideas of being lesser than others.

And this response shows what I mean. Most blacks dont think that they lost anything. What they think is that they developed a new CARIBBEAN centered culture.   You root yours out of India, attaching nothing of value to being Guyanese.

If you were singing Bob Marley she wouldnt ask what the song was. She would already know as she dances to her Jamaican based reggaetón.

The very fact that these Nigerians live in the USA in spaces that black Americans fought for just shows how pathetic their derision for black Americans is.  If they are so fabulous why isnt Nigeria one of the world's economic powerhouses?  It has one of the worlds largest populations.
