ASM Helps Establish New Air Service to Guyana

June 27, 2014 9:48 AM, Source

Dynamic Airways commences direct service from New York to Georgetown

MANCHESTER, England, June 27, 2014 /CNW/ - A new air service started 26 June 2014 connecting Georgetown, Guyana, with New York, USA, on a 4 times weekly all year round basis. This direct route is operated on-board a B767-200(ER) by an American carrier - Dynamic Airways, whose CEO, Paul Kraus, announced that the carrier is undergoing a phase of expansion.

As it currently stands, Dynamic is the only US carrier to serve the route, which has attracted much interest from Caribbean based airlines. Earlier this year, the US Department of Transportation rejected seventh-freedom applications from Caribbean Airlines (BW, Port of Spain) and Fly Jamaica Airways (OJ, Kingston Norman Manley) to service the route.  New York is the most in-demand route from Georgetown, Guyana, where nearly a quarter of a million Guyanese reside.

Ramesh Ghir, Chief Executive Officer of Cheddi Jagan International Airport Corporation that manages the main airport in Guyana, located in Georgetown, commented: "We are very happy and excited that Dynamic Airways has decided to provide airlift to Guyana. Aviation is an extremely competitive industry, and to ensure Guyana makes significant strides we partnered with ASM to market the GEO route. I was privileged to be part of the negotiating team that courted Dynamic Airways, and I am confident that this successful collaboration will continue way into the future. The interest shown by the airline to ply the Guyana route will augur well for us economically and it cements the argument that an expansion of our airport facility is vital as we push to court more airlines."

Dynamic airways is committed to Guyana's market, supported by the Guyanese Government, and plans to operate further underserved /unserved routes from the Guyanese capital. The carrier has already recruited 50 local flight attendants creating an indirect positive contribution to the local economy of over 100 jobs. ASM, part of UBM Live is a UK based route development adviser that highlighted the opportunity to the American carrier and brokered the deal on behalf of Cheddi Jagan International Airport.

David Stroud, Managing Director, ASM provided further insight: "We are delighted to be part of the team that helped to establish this direct service to New York from Guyana. There is a large Guyanese diaspora living in New York and New Jersey states, who will now benefit from reliable all year round air service to Georgetown. We expect this direct route will considerably stimulate the tourism flows into Guyana and bring significant wider economic benefits to the country."

Bad news for passengers as Dynamic Airways cancels for weekend

June 28, 2014 | By | Filed Under News

Several passengers were left stranded yesterday at the JFK Airport, New York, after new operator, Dynamic Airways, ran into ground-handling problems on its inaugural return trip.

The operator was up to late afternoon seeking ways to get passengers back on another carrier.
Several angry customers contacted Kaieteur News from New York yesterday on the cancellation.
Local representatives in Guyana, Roraima Airways, yesterday advised that the cancellation was due β€œto a technical issue with the terminal and ground handling in New York. The flights for this weekend have been cancelled.”
The airline was busy attempting to contact passengers to advise them of the cancellation.
Roraima said it hoped that the issue would have been resolved by Tuesday.
Dynamic Airways made its inaugural flight Thursday, arriving a few hours late before departing Guyana and landing at JFK Airport after 10PM.
On board were a number of media personnel and Government officials.
Kaieteur News was told that on landing, passengers were not allowed to clear at Terminal Four. They were directed to Terminal One, a check area used by Fly Jamaica, another operator of the Guyana/New York route.
Guyana has been battling to attract new carriers on especially the North America route.
However, there are fears now that the number of carriers may be too many, making that route an unsustainable one.
In addition to Dynamic, there is TravelSpan, an airline owned by a Guyanese; Fly Jamaica, another airline that is partially owned by a Guyanese and Trinidad-based Caribbean Airlines.
A number of other airlines are also looking to fly the US route, to Miami, including Suriname Airways, Insel and Panamanian-based Copa Airlines.
Dynamic is partnering with Roraima Airways to bring the flights. Roraima, which is owned by Captain Gerry Gouveia, is the local handler.
Gouveia could not be contacted yesterday.
Dynamic is eyeing to become a substitute flag-carrier for Guyana with hopes of earning that title in the long run.

Over 100 passengers stranded in NY

-as problems mar Dynamic Airways launch

Dynamic Airways’ Guyana to US service got off to a troubling start with its inaugural flight marred by delays, equipment breakdowns and poor service and now over 100 passengers are stranded in New York after US authorities grounded the airline over deficiencies in its baggage system there.

After leaving the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri for the JFK International Airport in New York following hours of delays yesterday morning, the flight was due to return to Guyana later in the day but US airport authorities stopped the plane from leaving after the airline’s ground handling agency reportedly mixed up the luggage of several passengers. Over a hundred passengers were left stranded.
