Asst Commissioner Amsterdam, FACC event peddles off in Berbice today

Divisional Commander of the Berbice ‘B’ Division Assistant Commissioner Ian Amsterdam has teamed up with the Flying Ace Cycling Club (FACC) to stage a grand cycling event today in Berbice from 09:00hrs as a part of their sports and community enhancement activities.

The event is being held in observance of the Commander’s birth anniversary and several Berbice Cyclists will take to the road in a 35-mile event which peddles off from the Rose Hall Town Arch in Corentyne. The race proceed east to the Felix Austin Police Training College in Adventure before turning back to finish at Main and Alexander Streets in New Amsterdam.

Prizes will be presented to the first six cyclists to cross the finishing line while the first three juveniles and the first two females will also be awarded prizes. Eight sprint prizes will also be up for grabs.
Commander Amsterdam, since his posting in Berbice has come up with many new initiatives which have helped in the reduction of crime.

Sports, Education and Community development are among the issues being dealt with while a number of youth, sports, Community policing, scouts and other groups have been formed or receives assistance from the police force.

FACC President Randolph Roberts said he was impressed by the work ethic of Commander Amsterdam and thanked him for his contribution, especially his work with youths which plays a major role in keeping them away from the social ills and illicit activities. Roberts pledged to make the event an annual affair.
