At loggerheads: Tehmash-a over PPP’s district leadership
PESHAWAR: Workers of Pakistan People Party (PPP) in Peshawar opposed the appointment of Malik Tehmash Khan as PPP’s district head in a news conference at Peshawar Press Club on Monday.
Led by Muhammad Farooq Shah Advocate, dozens of PPP workers gathered in protest.
Shah claimed former provincial president Anwar Saifullah Khan was attempting to shape a new district wing with Malik Tehmash as its head, even as another such district wing, headed by Israr Khan, has been functional for over a decade. Shah is the general secretary of the district wing under Israr.
“If the district wing in place has not been dissolved by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, another wing running alongside can only be fake,” argued Shah.
He shared party workers have already conveyed their concerns to Provincial President PPP Khanzada Khan, however, Shah claimed, they have received no satisfactory response as yet. “We maintain our confidence in the central and provincial leadership of the party but we cannot accept Malik Tehmash Khan as the district chapter’s leader.”
PPP workers gathered at the club insisted they will never allow handing over party reins to an “incapable district leadership”.
They urged Bilawal to take immediate steps to resolve issues in the district leadership and prevent the party from disintegrating.
