It has been confirmed that Ernest Elliot will today be sworn in as an A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) Member of Parliament (MP), replacing Jaipaul Sharma who resigned last week over remarks directed at his father. This development further widens the rift between party leader David Granger and Linden strongman Aubrey Norton who was once again sidestepped and who many believe should be in parliament as a result of the work he did to return overwhelming support for the party in Linden at the 2011 elections. Norton was overlooked on two previous occasions since 2011 and has accused a faction of the PNC of stymieing his upward mobility in the party owing to his support for Carl Greenidge who had challenged Granger for the PNC's leadership.
