Veteran Guyanese politician and International Relations expert, Aubrey Norton is tipped to be a presidential advisor on youth empowerment.
Minister of State, Joseph Harmon told Demerara Waves Online News on Sunday, May 31 that Norton would be serving the administration of President David Granger.
Norton, a former University of Guyana lecturer and former People's National Congress (PNC) General Secretary is expected to have his official appointment in this capacity soon, "but things have not yet been finalised," Harmon explained.
When asked about his positioning at the Ministry of the Presidency, Harmon said that that was among the final decisions to be made.
Norton, who studied Political Science and International Relations in Guyana and the United Kingdom, is widely regarded as a seasoned campaigner since joining the youth arm of the Peopleβs National Congress Reform (PNCR) several decades ago.
At one stage of his political career he had been sidelined by the PNCR although he had oiled and accelerated the campaign machinery in Linden and other parts of the country.
He is a former Foreign Service Officer and lecturer at Critchlow Labour College.
Norton has been a long standing member of the PNCR which is the largest party that makes up the five-member coalition of a Partnership for National Unity+ Alliance for Change Coalition that secured a slim victory at the 2015 General and Regional Election.
