Audit reports may be dragged out until next elections … PPP will survive all provocations – Rohee
People’s Progressive Party General Secretary Clement Rohee has expressed that there is a view circulating in the public that the current administration will drag out the procedures regarding the forensic audits until the next general and regional elections.
Rohee shared this idea yesterday during a press conference held at his party’s Freedom House headquarters. He stated that if the government intends to drag out the issue, his party will survive whatever the present administration plans to do with the information.
“I don’t think that this new government, irrespective of any audits, how many provocations they are seeking to engineer… that that will destroy the PPP.”
Rohee proclaimed that his party is fit to handle whatever the government throws at them. He noted that his party has been around for quite some time, more than 50 years.
Rohee intimated that it would be presumptuous to even think that these reports will affect his party’s reputation. Further, he stated that his party is fit, and over the years it has been able to withstand manipulations which were directed at it.
The General Secretary professed his confidence in the PPP when he stated that it has 32 seats in parliament and as such alluded to the continued strength which his party yields as a heavyweight contender in the political arena.
Additionally, he believes the APNU-AFC government is refusing to meet at the level of the national assembly as often as it should due to the PPP’s presence in the house. According to the party executive, this is so since many of the government ministers have been constantly travelling here and there.
The former Minister of Home Affairs noted that he does not believe that his party’s image will be tainted by the irregularities which the forensic audits have unearthed at the various government agencies and ministries under the PPP/C administration.
Rohee expressed that it appears as though the authorities are somewhat confused as to what to do with the reports.
“I understand that some audits have been sent to the Guyana Police Force, they’re making their rounds, they don’t seem to know what to do with these audit reports.”
He highlighted that “besides the GPF, some reports are with the Minister of Public Security Khemraj Ramjattan and some are with the Ministry of the Presidency.”
In his final remarks on the issue, Rohee noted that it was proposed that the audits should be accompanied with the views of the previous board and board members of the various state agencies whose operations were scrutinized.
