Minister within the Ministry of Natural Resources, Simona Broomes said that Australian investors have expressed interest in investing in Guyana. Minister Broomes recently attended the Latin America Down Under conference which was held from May 17- 19, 2017 in Pan Pacific Perth, Australia.

The Minister highlighted that the meeting was held with investors who expressed interest in the mining industry. She said that during the discussions a number of questions were raised.

Minister Broomes said that when attending overseas training or in this case, a conference, her aim is to garner how Guyanese can benefit from what is being shared. Additionally she noted that information is always being gathered on how best she can improve the services her sector provides.

Minister Broomes made presentations on the areas of Exploration and Syndicates, an area that persons present were impressed with. The Minister said that the progress Guyana has made with syndicates is one that is commendable.

The Minister noted that she would have also paid keen attention and gathered information on safety practices in mining. Additionally, being an advocate for women, Minister Broomes said key information was gathered on how countries view women in mining, an issue that she is very passionate about. A tour of two mining sites was among the itinerary.

With its strong growth trends and growing economic clout, Latin America has risen in recent years to become a vital part of the international economy, with the resources industry a key part of this emergence.

The Australian Government is working to enhance its relations with the nations and the economies of Latin America and a particularly strong partnership is emerging in the mining sector. Latin America is home to large ore bodies, strong mining cultures and governments which offer stable and attractive investment environments, yet it still holds vast, untapped potential.

Following the format of its highly successful African counterpart, Latin America Down Under provides a rare opportunity for governments, companies, suppliers, media and investors to network and share their stories and experiences.

This is what you slop can boys call investment? Raping the country's natural resources. I thought from the heading that they were coming to open sugar factory or high tech industry.

This is frigging unbelievable. You people complain and find fault about everything. A few weeks ago it was "nobody will invest in Guyana". Now you have a problem with outside investors. I guess you forgot Bai Shan Lin and what he did to the forest and the Brazilian miners that are mining gold in Guyana and sending it over the border. I know this is hard for some of you but try to keep an open mind. You people would have been singing a different tune if this was done under Jagdeo.

Banna you loved to yap,

Guyana a country with a population of 750,000,can you give a hint what type of High-Tech Industry can the country attract, taking in to consideration most tech-manufacturing are in the Asian countries.

Regarding the Natural Resources most countries tap into theirs, why Guyana shouldn't tap theirs ??

This is not considered investment it is exploitation of non renewable resources.

Ask CaribJ he was the one that suggested high tech industry. Do you honestly believe foreigners exploiting natural resources as investment? Look how bai shin lan was lambasted for tearing down the forests. Omai raped the forest of gold and left a trail of destruction. These new "investors" are not interested in leaving any sustainable industry behind, their motive is to extract and then move on once all resources are exhausted. Now keep pulling that slop can.

Bana, what nonsense are you spewing? In the same token, oil exploration should be stopped since that is also non renewable. As is gold mining, bauxite etc. My only problems with this are, Guyana needs to be amply rewarded and there needs to be strict monitoring so we don't have another Baishanlin incident and there is a low impact on the land.

Tangible lasting development does not include non renewable resource exploitation. When the resource is gone it leaves a vaccum. It has no future, Guyana needs investors that will have a lasting positive impact.

I will agree. Mining is completely destructive. Mined areas are sanitized even of bacterial life and takes centuries to refresh.  Small mining takes place on the banks of rivers in that very sensitive and eco rich riparian zones. These areas are seminal to life in the interior of the region. Mining returns nothing to the society. For a little bit of yellow metal we kill all life in an area.

I personally have lots of problems with resource extraction the way it is done in Guyana, both in the area of the environment, and economic returns to the country through royalties, taxes and manufacturing.

regarding your statement that people will be supporting it if it were Jagdeo, it is a postulate that cannot be proven until Jagdeo does it or you provide proof that these guys supported him when he encouraged foreign resource extraction.

Talk is cheap. I generally want to see it, not hearvtalk about what will be done.  We are still awaiting the investment from the foreign investors who invested in the AFC/APNU campaign. Remember it was Gaskin the business minister who said something to the effect that he did not know of any business iinvestment opportunity is Guyana. Brooke's has to justify her trip in some way.

I suggest that the PNC/AFC reach deep into their campaign bag and pull out all the plans to develop the industries they promised prior to May 2015. They said they had the answers, we are all patiently awaiting.

SO basically you have nothing of substance to contribute except the requisite negativity and jaw flapping.

Looks like your comprehension skills are lacking. You took umbrage to the Australian interest in mining in Guyana. I asked what YOUR suggestion(s) would be in lieu. Still awaiting a serious answer.

I don't think you fellas quite get it yet. PPP or PNC, I don't give a hoot. You people can hold on to that. I see an opportunity which can help Guyana. Whatever hope I have that the current government succeeds is because ANY success will benefit Guyana.

In three years, if nothing materializes, change them. I keep getting accused of supporting PNC. I have used one word constantly, "hope". All you who say I am PNC, show me where I said I was sure this government had all the solutions.

And what sort of investment did we see under the PPP. Basically gold, plus shopping malls.

The less said about that US$200 million sugar factory that the PPP squandered scarce funds on the better.

And your PPP didn't put in place the enabling environment to allow tech, aside from low end call center jobs that even St Lucians don't want.

As far as the PPP fraudsters are concerned if one isn't a PPP then one must be a PNC.  This especially goes for Indians who must jump over a cliff if Jagdeo screams that they must.  This to prove their racial loyalty.

The PPP had to go as with 23 years, had they remained they would have become too entrenched.  If APNU/AFC don't up their game in the 2+ years that they have left then they ought to go too.

Guyana needs to take a page from France and find a completely new party, as clearly both the PNC and the PPP have proven to be a disaster.

And Jagdeo is now screaming ditto.  He had 15 years to fix the problem (yes we all know that Ramotar was a Jagdeo stooge).  Clearly he didn't so why his bellows now with his ignorant sounding voice?

PNC in charge now, let them figure it out. The PPP is not on trial, they had the economy humming with many small investors despite the PNC sending their criminals to rob and kill as fast as investors came on board. The PNC came to power and started driving out the remaining investors.
