Azimuth Resources (ASX:AZH) has achieved high gold recovery rates from both oxidised and fresh materials obtained from its 100% controlled Hicks Deposit at the West Omai project, Guyana.

The testing of the 11 interval composites at the ACME Metallurgical Laboratories in Vancouver, Canada, indicated the gold mineralisation at Hicks is not refractory and will be amendable to conventional carbon-in-pulp or carbon-in-leach treatment.

For the cyanide leach program, the average recovery for the 11 composites was 93%, with all tests except 3 yielding greater than 90%.

Meanwhile, the gravity amenability program recovered an average 12% of gold to a secondary panned concentrate followed by a primary centrifugal concentration stage recovery rate of 40%.

The composites were chosen to represent a range of grades from both oxidised and fresh material. In addition, one composite of fresh material representing a spread of grades from spatially diverse locations within the deposit was also tested.

Azimuth said the results also indicated the presence of free gold, presented opportunities for further improvement of recoveries with the integration of gravity and leaching processes as well as incorporating the use of leach kinetics accelerants such as oxygen and lead nitrate.

It added a realistic target for gravity gold recovery rates for Hicks material was expected to be 20-30% though this would be investigated in the next phase of work on the project.

The result from Hicks reinforce Azimuth’s belief the West Omai ore is free milling with potential for gains in gravity concentration.

West Omai is a 1000 square kilometre advanced exploration project that covers a 40 kilometre strike portion of the same straigraphic corridor that hosts the historic Omai gold mine.

Azimuth had A$19.6 million in cash as of 31 December 2011, which it said was enough to fund its exploration program this year.
