Balram Shane Annual Cricket and Volleyball competitions set for tomorrow in Berbice

The 16th annual Balram Shane challenge Fund raising 50 overs cricket match and the fifth annual Volleyball competition is fixed for tomorrow at the Albion Sports Complex.
The day’s activity is being sponsored by Businessman Deonarine Balram of The Balram Shane General store, Rose Hall Town Corentyne.
This year for the first time the cricket match will be played between Albion Community Center and a rest of Berbice combination. According to the organiser regular participant Port Mourant CC has pulled out of the match for unknown reasons.
A day full of action is anticipated since most of the top cricketers in Berbice are slated to participate, while the volleyball competition will see the best volleyball teams in the County spiking it out for top honours.
The winning team will receive the Balram Shane Memorial trophy and cash incentives the runner up will be also adequately rewarded. A number of individual awards will be up for grabs including the man of the match, best bowler and best batsman.
Meanwhile, the fifth annual senior inter club volleyball competition organised by The Berbice Volleyball Association (BVA) will be played simultaneously on the hard court.
Most of the top volleyball teams in Berbice including Port Mourant Training Center (PMTC), GuySuCo Training Centre/ Port Mourant (GTC/PM) which is expected to field more than one outfit, Port Mourant Jaguars, Albion Community Centre, Rollers of New Amsterdam, Jets Of Corriverton, Teams from Orealla/ Siparuta up the Corentyne River, Three Door Strikers of West Berbice, No19 Sports Club, No53 Survivors, Albion Community center, Black Bush Polder and Tain Humanitarian among others are expected to participate.
According to organiser Deonarine Balram the competitions are being played in memory of his father who was a former cricketer and sports enthusiast. He stated that it is also their way of giving back to the community from which they garner their support in a tangible way.
Proceeds from the competitions will be dived equally and distributed to the two cricket teams. Other organisations will also benefit from the proceeds of the game.
The top teams and outstanding individual players will be presented with trophies and cash incentives by the sponsor and his family who will be on hand to bowl the first ball and do the first serve in the volleyball competition.
