CPL says Barbados Tridents will remain champs

August 24, 2014 6:58 pm Category: latest news A+ / A-

cpl[www.inewsguyana.com] – The Cricket Tournament Committee (CTC) of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) has declared that there are no grounds to reverse or nullify the decision of the match referees to resort to the Duckworth Lewis method that handed the Barbados Tridents an anticlimactic win over the Amazon Warriors in the final of the CPL.

Barbados won by eight runs via the Duckworth Lewis system after an interruption by rain.

With four overs remaining and the game evenly poised and the pitch seemingly in good enough playing condition, the outcome not only angered the fans of the game, it caused the Amazon Warriors owners to file a formal complaint that resulted in the following statement by the CTC of CPL:

The Caribbean Premier League having received and considered the formal complaint made to it by the Franchise Owners of the Guyana Amazon Warriors with regard to the outcome of the finals played on August 16 at Warner Park in St. Kitts referred the Match Report to the Cricket Tournament Committee (CTC)  for its decision.

The CTC has carefully considered the report of the Match Referee and the arguments raised by the Guyana Amazon Warriors in their several written representations and has now completed its review.

The CTC findings are as follows:

The Match Referee properly applied the rules regarding the time allotted for the Match.

·         The CTC references paragraph 6.2 of Section 3A of the CPL Tournament Rules which expressly precludes a team from objecting to the result of a match on the ground of any decision made by any Umpire or the Match Referee. This rule is intended to bring finality to matches.

·         The Match Referees report clearly indicates an enquiry by Damien O Donohoe CEO of CPL and Charles Wilkin QC member of the Tournament Committee if in the interests of the Game and especially the fans the full match could be played without resort to the Duckworth-Lewis rules.  To this, the consent of both Captains was required and that was not forthcoming. Hence they were informed that, according to the Playing Conditions they did not have the authority to make such a ruling.

·         In the circumstances, the CTC has no authority nor does it find good reason under the CPL Tournament Rules to reverse the result or declare the match a nullity.  Accordingly the CTC has ruled that the final result stands.

·         Further the CTC and the CPL management would offer no objection to the matter being referred to the ICC, crickets world governing body if contending parties still so desire for a ruling that is definitive, transparent and expeditious.

Chairman of the CTC, Most Honourable Mr. PJ Patterson, comments; Having carefully considered the report of the Match Referee and the arguments raised by the Guyana Amazon Warriors the CTC has concluded that there are no grounds for the result of the final to be reversed or nullified.

He concludes; The CPL has succeeded in reinvigorating the passion for cricket across the region and has in two short years established its own distinctive brand and earned exciting market appeal.  Nothing must be done to impair its image or erode its credibility.

The Caribbean Premier League management would like to take this opportunity to express its sincere thanks to everyone involved in the CPL; players, event teams, team owners, sponsors, host countries and above all the fans for their amazing support. The CPL is a fantastic tournament which showcases the very best that the Caribbean has to offer on the world stage and each and every member of the CPL family is proud to be a part of it.

And to have the honorable, honorable to come here and try to pacify, Guyana fans with his bull, that shows how honorable he is.

Why is it racist?  Are there no blacks on the team?

Yes indeed there is an anti Guyanese bias because Guyanese pack all these islands, so the Islanders dont particularly care for us, so a decision against Guyana is an easy one to make.

Even at that match there were loads of Guyanese flags, and I bet most of them live in St Kitts, Nevis, Antigua, or one of the other nearby islands.

Blame the PPP because it is since 2000 that Guyanese have been swarming into those places.

Controversy erupts over CPL’s decision not to resume match

August 17, 2014 5:49 pm Category: Sports A+ / A-

Barbados Tridents[www.inewsguyana.com] – The decision by officials of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) not to resume play during the finals on Saturday [August 16] between the Guyana Amazon Warriors and the Barbados Tridents is being called into question.

Many believe that the Amazon Warriors were treated unfairly by CPL when they decided to award the Tridents the champion of the CPL via the Duckworth/Lewis system; making it the first time that the Tridents have captured the title.

The Tridents batted first and set the Amazon Warriors a target of 153 to win. A tight finish was in prospect, but a third interruption from the rain saw the CPL officials declaring the Tridents the winners, as they were eight runs ahead on the Duckworth Lewis calculations.

Observers pointed out to iNews that even though the CPL website stated that the game will resume, it obviously never did. The stumps were in the ground for about 30 minutes and there was no rain around. It boggles the mind as to why play never resumed, since Warner Park, where the final was played, has lights.

There are rumors that the officials told the Guyana Amazon Warrior’s Captain, Denesh Ramdin that based on the Duckworth/Lewis method, they needed 30 runs from 12 balls. Ramdin reportedly protested. The officials then reportedly agreed to play the full remaining four overs of the match; however Captain of the Barbados Tridents, Kieron Pollard protested this and said the rules are the rules.

This resulted in a lengthy discussion and the officials eventually decided that they won’t resume play and the Barbados Tridents were declared the winners of LCPL 2014.

While there is no specific owner of the Barbados Tridents, it is being alleged that Digicel sponsored the team. Digicel also plays a major role in the operations of CPL. iNews understands that the Warriors were reluctant to do any interviews during the presentation ceremony. The interviews were eventually conducted. The Barbados Tridents will play in Champions League in India later this year as the Caribbean representative.

Barbados were always  Racist many years ago, in respect towards Indo Guyanese Cricketers for the West Indies Team, anyway can you say why

there were Barbados Umpires, (why not neutral?) Why was there only Barbados CPL Officials (why not a Guyanese or a Trinidadian).

Why 45 minutes were wasted, with the umpires going in and out like they were on a sexual escapade............

Shame on Barbados......take it you need it more, but next time you should earn it, instead of thiefing it as it appears.

Oh was there some match fixing by the Bajan Officials so that Trident could have

been given the match, based on D/L, Once there was reason to continue the game, there was no point in bringing the D/L to play.

That my friend was done to rob Guyana.

CPL to respond to Warriors today

Officials of the Limacol Caribbean Premier League CPL T20 tournament will respond to a complaint made by 2014 runners- up Guyana Amazon Warriors today.

The Management of the Guyana Amazon Warriors team made a decision to contest the outcome of the second CPL final on August 16 at Warner Park, St Kitts and Nevis.

The finals which was won by Barbados Tridents ended in controversy after rain intervened. The Tridents won the match by eight runs under the Duckworth/Lewis method and will now represent the Caribbean at the Champions League in India in September.

The Warriors had issued a statement yesterday in which they indicated that they were going to contest the decision by the umpires to call off the game. Manager of the Guyana Amazon Warriors Omar Khan speaking to T&T Guardian yesterday explained the current situation. “We took a decision at the management level to contest the decision of the officials.

We have articulated our view on the matter, they have made a ruling and we are not happy with that at the moment. We have written to CPL and have identified many areas where we think they went wrong and they have since responded to us, indicating that they will attend to our challenge. “The CPL wrote to us and said they are going to send our concerns to their technical committee and they would get back to us within 24 hours. We are keen to see what is the response.”

Asked whether a rematch was likely Khan said : “We have stated our position, we have challenged the ruling and we are hopeful that the technical committee rule the match null and void. In this case a rematch would be the logical choice.

“However, if this is not done, all is not lost. We have highlighted a problem with the officials and the tournament is still young, so moving forward they can be better organised. We have to learn from our mistakes to improve and it is very interesting at the moment to see how the CPL deals with this situation.”

The Guyana Amazon Warriors protested the conclusion of the match by refusing to attend the prize distribution ceremony which saw the Barbadian Tridents hoist the trophy in celebration. (VM)

Spectators both at  home and at the ground, knew that something suspicious transpired after the prolonged rain break and then the announcement of Barbados being the CPL 2014 Champions. This suspicion coupled with the action taken by the Guyana Amazon Warriors management team prompts me as a supporter to let my voice be heard in support of the #Warriors.

I hereby make a demand of the CPL to conduct an investigation into the activities leading up to the final results and make the findings known to the public. During this process the title should be taken away from Barbados. If there are any  descrepancies in the findiings then the match should be replayed.

Also we would like to see the Duckworth Lewis method be withdrawn from future CPL finals since as fans we payed to see a full game so we deserve nothing short of a full game, systems should be put in place in the event of rain interruption to pospone until a later date.

My Future support of CPL competitions will be based on their reponse to the cries of the #GuyanaAmazonWarriors and the #Warriors fans.

Barbadians don't like Guyanese Indians because they arrived in Barbados with anti black attitudes.  Bajans felt that they had enough racism to deal with from white Bajans and weren't about to put up with more from impoverished peasants who arrived begging for work.

If Guyanese Indians go to Barbados with the notion that they are better than blacks why do you think that the racism wouldn't be flung back in their faces?

In addition as much as Bajans don't particularly like black Guyanese they know fully well that most of us are part Bajan.  So when black Guyanese tell them about the hell hole that the PPP has made for blacks in Guyana they will definitely believe, because the attitudes that many Indians bring confirms that they don't care for blacks.

I wasn't aware that the Bajans ran the CPL. Its the people who ran the CPL who made the decision.

Guyana’s Sport Director believes Amazon Warriors were cheated

August 20, 2014 4:50 pm Category: Sports A+ / A-

Sport Director, Neil Kumar.

Sport Director, Neil Kumar.

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Director of Sport, Neil Kumar has called on the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), the Cricket the Cricket Committee of recently concluded Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and the International Cricket Council (ICC) to reverse the decision taken on the final of the CPL matches and that the match be declared null and void, or a no result.

Kumar has joined the hundreds of Guyanese who are now challenging the outcome of the game which saw the Guyana Amazon Warriors losing to the Barbados Tridents via the Duckworth/ Lewis method.

Below is his full statement:

As Director of Sport in Guyana, I wish to comment on the controversial outcome of the second Caribbean Premier League (CPL) final, played between the Guyana Amazon Warriors and the Barbados Tridents on August 16 in St Kitts and Nevis.

It is incumbent upon me to highlight a few sections of the playing conditions, or rules, of the tournament.

FLASHBACK: The Warriors celebrate a after recent win

FLASHBACK: The Warriors celebrate a after recent win

I have copied and pasted those sections below, verbatim, which may apply given the circumstances that obtained before, during and after the game, not only for the fans of the Guyana Amazon Warriors, but also for anyone who follows the game of cricket.

12.4    Length of Innings

12.4.1   Uninterrupted Matches.

a) Each team shall bat for 20 overs unless all out earlier.

b) If the team fielding first fails to bowl the required number of overs by the scheduled time for cessation of the first innings, play shall continue until the required number of overs has been bowled. The length of the interval shall be reduced as per clause 15.1 (minimum 10 minutes) and the second session shall begin at the scheduled time or ten minutes after the end of the first innings (whichever is later). The team batting second shall receive its full quota of 20 overs irrespective of the number of overs it bowled in the scheduled time for the cessation of the first innings.

Barbados Tridentsc) If the team batting first is dismissed in less than 20 overs, the team batting second shall be entitled to bat for 20 overs.

d) If the team fielding second fails to bowl 20 overs by the scheduled cessation time, the hours of play shall be extended until the required number of overs has been bowled or a result is achieved.

e)  Penalties shall apply for slow over rates (refer to the Code of Conduct).

12.4.2          Delayed or Interrupted Matches

a) Delay or Interruption to the Innings of the team batting first (see Appendix 2)

i) When playing time has been lost the revised number of overs to be bowled in the match shall be based on a rate of 15 overs per hour in the total remaining time available for play.

vi)  Penalties shall apply for slow over rates (refer to the Code of Conduct).

b) Delay or Interruption to the innings of the team batting second (see Appendix 3)

i) When playing time has been lost and, as a result, it is not possible for the team batting second to have the opportunity of receiving its allocated, or revised allocation of overs in the playing time available, the number of overs shall be reduced at a rate of 15 overs per hour in respect of the lost playing time. Should the calculations result in a fraction of an over the fraction shall be ignored.

ii) In addition, should the innings of the team batting first have been completed prior to the scheduled, or re-scheduled time for the commencement of the interval, then any calculation relating to the revision of overs shall not be effective until an amount of time equivalent to that by which the second innings started early has elapsed.

iii) To constitute a match, a minimum of 5 overs have to be bowled to the team batting second subject to a result not being achieved earlier.

iv) The team batting second shall not bat for a greater number of overs than the first team unless the latter completed its innings in less than its allocated overs.

v) A fixed time will be specified for the close of play by applying a rate of 15 overs per hour. The timing and duration of all relative delays, extensions in playing hours and interruptions in play, will be taken into consideration in specifying this time.

vi) If the team fielding second fails to bowl the revised overs by the scheduled or re-scheduled close of play, the hours of play shall be extended until the overs have been bowled or a result achieved.

vii)  Penalties shall apply for slow over rates (refer to the Code of Conduct).

12.5    Extra Time

Where the start of play is delayed or play is suspended for whatever reason, up to one (1) hour of extra time may be added.

As regards slow over rate, the Guyana Amazon Warriors bowled 20 overs in 95 minutes, while the Barbados Tridents bowled 15.5 overs in 93 minutes.

This clearly shows that the Tridents deliberately dragged on the game, while the umpires continued to smile.

The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), the Cricket Committee of CPL and the International Cricket Council (ICC) must explain their role in the CPL tournament. Further, the Amazon Warriors Management must diligently pursue their appeal of the decision to award the game to Barbados Tridents to the ICC.

The Caribbean people are expressing total disgust at the outcome. Is the sponsor of the Tridents team guilty of something? Who owns the Tridents? Who owns the CPL?

In view of how the game was conducted, I call on the WICB, the Cricket Committee of CPL and the ICC to reverse the decision taken on the final and that the match be declared null and void, or a no result.

I also feel compelled to attach, as part of this statement, a complete copy of the “Playing Conditions of the Caribbean Premier League 2014” for your own perusal.

I thank all cricket fans for their continued support of the Guyana Amazon Warriors.
