Controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Naik faces multiple government probes after reports that his speeches allegedly inspired one of the five Bangladeshi terrorists who killed 22 people at a restaurant in Dhaka last week.

In Delhi, a senior minister said Zakir’s speeches were “highly objectionable” and hours later Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis ordered Mumbai Police commissioner to probe Naik’s speeches and submit a report.

“The Home Ministry will study (his speeches). It will take appropriate action after studying them. His speeches, as being reported in the media, are highly objectionable,” Information and Broadcasting minister M Venkaiah Naidu told reporters.

Meanwhile, police have been deployed outside the city office of a foundation run by Naik, as a precautionary measure in the wake of the recent developments.

“We have neither received any threat perception nor particular instructions from the state or Central government. We have deployed our forces only as a precautionary measure to avoid any untoward incident,” the official told PTI.

Bangladeshi newspaper ‘Daily Star’ had reported that militant Rohan Imtiaz, son of an Awami League leader, ran a propaganda on Facebook last year quoting Naik.

Naik, in his lecture aired on Peace TV, an international Islamic channel, had reportedly “urged all Muslims to be terrorists”.

The controversial Islamic orator and founder of Mumbai-based Islamic Research Foundation is banned in the UK and Canada for his ‘hate speech’ aimed at other religions. He is among 16 banned Islamic scholars in Malaysia.

He is known in Bangladesh through his Peace TV, although his preachings often demean other religions and even other Muslim sects, the report said.

Shiv Sena MP Arvind Sawant yesterday said he had written to the Union Home Minister, demanding a ban on Naik and Islamic Research Foundation, in the country’s interest.

Last week, Islamist gunmen stormed a popular restaurant in Dhaka’s diplomatic enclave and killed 22 people, most of them foreigners from Italy, Japan, India and the US in an attack claimed by the Islamic State.

We Guyanese have a pre-occupation with race and class but little, if any, with religion.  Lets keep it that way brothers and sisters.

I agree with the billy. There must be unity between Guyanese Hindu East Indians and Guyanese Muslim East Indians always.

There is unity and it is getting better in the face of increasing corruption and deterioration of people's rights.

What Dr.Zakir Naik said was - "A terrorist is a person who causes terror. The moment a robber sees a policeman he is terrified. A policeman is a terrorist for the robber. Similarly every Muslim should be a terrorist for the antisocial elements of society, such as thieves, dacoits and rapists. Whenever such an anti-social element sees a Muslim, he should be terrified. It is true that the word ‘terrorist’ is generally used for a person who causes terror among the common people. But a true Muslim should only be a terrorist to selective people i.e. anti-social elements, and not to the common innocent people. In fact a Muslim should be a source of peace for innocent people."

Dr. Zakir Naik has stated many times that ISIS is 'un-Islamic’ and has called the terror group enemies of Islam. Dr.Zakir has unequivocally said "By using the name Islamic State, we are condemning Islam… They are the anti-Islamic state of Iraq and Syria that has killed innocent foreigners. The name is given by enemies of Islam".

A terrorist is a person/group who seek political change by terrorizing the public.  Merely feeling "terror" from a criminal or police officer does not meet the political definition of "terror/terrorist"!  As a kid, I was in terror from my mother when I did shyte, that does not make her a terrorist!

Islamist seek to change policy and apply scare tactics and violence to achieve that objective, as such terrorists!

You have to distinguish between Guyanese Muslims and Guyanese Islamists!  Islamists will throw a Hindu under the bus before they throw a stray dog.  So be careful who you chose as allies.  For example, I would have more trust in an Afro racist like Caribj that with an Islamic zealot like Chief!

that Doctor or any Muslim would NEVER say terrible things about Jesus.

Can you back up your statement with some Actual FACTS or you just hate the Doctor because he actually proves that you re not worshipping God but man?

BTW he like his teacher Ahmad Deedat challenged many priest and pastors and they had no answer for his questions.

the challenge is still out for any Christian who wants to challenge him to a public televised debate on any topic on Christianity and Islam.Maybe you can arrange for someone to take up the challenge

Labels are given to people, things and places in order to achieve some political objective. House of Horrors Kidnapped shows the terror those kidnapped feel when they are locked away in these houses. No matter how one tries to minimize the actions of these kidnappers, it will not diminish the terror of these victims. That said, I can't wait for these Muslim militants terror to stop.

Naik like his mentor Deedat is fully aware of the effect of theatre and says shocking things in pursuit of that objective. That said, there are some things that the general public is not comfortable of. To use the word terrorist in any encouraging way is never a wise idea especially since Naik is a scholar not like those uneducated ISIS members.

Regarding Naik saying terrible things about Jesus, my man Sagga bai is lil confused. Naik and mentor Deedat always say that "Islam is the only non Christian faith that makes it an article of faith for Muslims to believe in Jesus". He would continue that "no Muslim is a Muslim if he doesn't believe in Jesus". What they object to and they do so very vociferously is the Bible's representation of Jesus. So you would have to point to the clips where he says terrible things about Jesus Sagga bai.

Admittedly Deedat and Naik use very raw language. They are not as polished and flowery as their Christian preachers counterparts but their arguments and citations are indisputable from a faith based perspective.

Islam do respect Christ as Islam was launched as a perfection of Christianity, prefering it to remain in its Medieval form.  However, Islam has no respect for Hindus, Buddhist, Shintoists, etc.  And Islam hates modern Christianity!
