The house was designed by Dr. Jagan and built during 1966. The family moved in at the end of 1966. This was their 1^st owned home, as up to that time they had lived in rented houses since returning to British Guiana in 1943 and also at Red House when Dr. Jagan was Premier from 1961-1964.

Their children had both left by 1972 for studies overseas.

Dr. Jagan lived here until 1992 when he moved to State House after being democratically elected President of Guyana. He lived there until his illness on February 14, 1997.

Mrs. Jagan returned home in 1997 after Dr. Jagan passed away and lived here until her death on March 28, 2009. She also lived here while she was President from 1997-1999.

Some changes were made to the house in 1997. Originally the front of the house which is now grey was dark wood stained. The kitchen and bathroom were redone.

The Jagan's modest wooden home consists of three bedrooms, one bathroom, a study, living room, dining room and a kitchen.

Jalil it was Boysie who sold Dr. Jagan the land at cost.  The sugar workers from GAWU together with party activists and party organisers built the house on the weekends. They freely volunteered their labor for Dr. Jagan. The house is nothing to talk about because it was built by some inexperienced volunteers. When Nadira and Joey live there the Bel Air  area did not have many homes as it has today.  There were lots of empty house lots and lots of raw land. 

Prashad I remember that area well.....back then that entire place was easily and frequently flooded, Prashad Nagar was like a large fish pond with maybe 10 houses......the roads were horrible......getting into Belair was a nightmare.

Jalil you are right.  The place was nothing to talk about.  In fact I use to be frighten to go into some parts of those areas because I know raw land in Guyana means snake and snake in Guyana means poison. 

People like Imo, Neru, Rev etc....need to hold on to Jagdeo and Ramotar....as they keep Drinking from the Cup.

That's a very modest house by Cheddie. Hoyte also had a modest home on North Road. According to Moses, Cheddie did not take seven months pay when he died. That's the man. On the other hand, you have the Oligarch-in-Chief paying himself $3 mill a month pension. You have Ashni Singh, Irfan Alli and Priya voting to change the MP rule to have Parliamentary pension from age 40. Can you imagine the contrast between the old leaders and new opportunists? 

Nadira is correct, the scoundrels need to be reined in but under no circumstance should the PNC/GDF scoundrel partnership be allowed to rule over Guyana.

The PPP/GDF partnership has been shown to be very fruitful for the regime. No wonder you don't want your bed partner to jump in bed with the PNC instead.
