Someone named Bayjee recently visited Guyana.
In the Kaieteur News he writes about his impression. Here:
Dear Editor,
I am just about to finish a couple of weeks visiting this country for the first time since 1965 as a British serviceman.
I am very shocked at the lack of positive economic progress to date. Guyanaβs natural resources are unmatched anywhere in the English speaking Caribbean.
If the islands of Barbados, Jamaica, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and Antigua and Barbuda can spend a great deal of GDP on tourism why Guyana with a lot more to offer is not doing the same.
The country seems to be squandering its natural resources for the benefit of a very few.
Growing up as a young boy in Barbados in the fifties, I was aware that, you provided the region with rice and sugar and also, many Bajans seeked employment in then British Guiana, in the forties, fifties and early sixties.
What has gone wrong ? Is it greed is GOOD !!
I do hope that your politicians legislate for all and not for some. You are blessed with an abundance that, can be shared by all of the people of this nation.
Good luck and keep calling out those lawmakers, who are not doing the peopleβs business.
