The newly elected Executives of the Berbice Cricket Board on Saturday last joined hands with Guyana’s leading Youth and Sports Club to honour the Berbice Under-15 Team which recently won the Guyana Cricket Board Inter-county Tournament. The Players along with their Manager and Coach were hosted at a Special Luncheon and Award Ceremony at the St. Francis Community Developers Boardroom in Rose Hall Town by Berbice Cricket Board President and his Executives.

The entire team and Management received a Championship Medal and Souvenir Polo T/Shirt with the words “Guyana Under-15 Cricket Champions”. Each player also received a collection of educational items to assist them in their school work and educational cricket posters to aid their cricket development. Additionally, Man of the Tournament Jonathan Rampersaud was honoured with a trophy, Medal, a book on the history of Berbice Cricket and a Special Gift.
Berbice Cricket Board President Hilbert Foster hailed the Champions as heroes of Berbice Cricket and stated that the Under-15 Championship was the perfect start to the year as 2018 promises to be a historic year for Berbice Cricket. He praised the work ethics and discipline of the team and for being outstanding ambassadors for the ancient county. He told the attentive youths that they were privileged to be following in the footsteps of legends such as Rohan Kanhai, Basil Butcher, John Trim, Alvin Kallicharran, Roy Fredericks and Ivan Madray. He committed his administration to making sure that cricket is played at all levels and that the players are given equal opportunities to fulfill their potentials on and off the cricket field.
Foster also announced his ambitious plans for 2018 which include tournaments at the Under-15, Under-17, Under-19, Under-21, Female, Intermediate, Second Division 20/20 and 40-Overs and several at the First Division levels. 20/20 and 40-Overs Tournaments would also played in each of the zones. An Under-19 Inter-Secondary School Tournament would also be hosted an Inter-Primary School Softball Tournament and a Double Wicket Cricket Tournament are also on the cards. Foster announced to great applause that sponsorship for 90% of the tournaments have either been received or pledged, while sponsorship has already been acquired for a Countywide Coaching Programme.
Other major plans announced were Award Ceremony, Annual Magazine, Education posters, Tribute to Heroes, Gears for Clubs, TV Programme, Subventions to Clubs and a Coaches Seminar among numerous others. The Berbice Cricket Board has already established an information Facebook account as part of its transparent policy. Foster also committed himself to running an administration that would not discriminate against anyone. Executives of the Berbice Cricket Board Albert Smith, Qualis Winter, Rabindranauth (Robby) Saywack, Winston Roberts, Dr. Cecil Beharry and Ameer Rahaman all congratulated the team and its Management. National Players Veerasammy Permaul and Anthony Bramble also offered words of advice to the team.
Captain of the team Zeynul Ramsammy, in expressing gratitude to the Berbice Cricket Board for honouring his team, stated that the Berbice Cricket Board made every player proud by recognising their efforts. Ramsammy noted that the team worked hard as a collective unit and as such reaped the fruits of success. The Players, Berbice Cricket Board Executives and Special Invitees were then treated to a special luncheon. The entire Ceremony and Luncheon was sponsored by the Management and Members of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, MS.
