With 2017 set aside as βThe Year of the Youthsβ at the Blairmont Cricket Club (BCC) West Coast Berbice, the clubβs management has embarked on an initiative to ensure that all its youth teams are appropriately attired. Their ambition to see this happen has been supported so far by three corporate entities, namely, Baksh Travel Service, Hand in Hand Insurance Company, and New Building Society.
In a release from the club, it was revealed that Baksh Travel Service donated 15 sets of uniforms to the Blairmont Under-15 team while Bel Air Farm Equipment and Machinery Supplies handed over a similar amount of uniforms to the clubβs Under-17 side.
Hand in Hand has covered the Under-19 team while the New Building Society contributed an undisclosed amount of cash towards the project. BCC President expressed thanks to all the sponsors for their investment in the club and assured them that their contribution would be beneficial towards the youths.
The release also informed that the club will continue to engage its members throughout the year in activities including Easter, summer, Christmas camps, sports and educational field trips. Although the clubβs main focus is on maintaining and developing sports, the youths are targeted with topics relevant to society and their roles such as suicide, peer pressure and behavioral patterns, among others. There are 52 members under the age of 17 registered at the BCC.
The entityβs annual awards ceremony is set for May 19, 2017, where not only its members are rewarded but outstanding members of society are also recognised.
In the past, the club has been fulfilling its social responsibilities by rendering assistance towards health care, schools, and unfortunate individuals. The BCC is encouraging youths to go to school and partake in its plans and events to help them be meaningfully occupied and at the same time benefiting themselves, the community, and country at large.
