Two hospitalised after neighbour intervenes to stop domestic abuse
Two labourers are now patients at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital after they allegedly chopped each other several times at Port Mourant on the Corentyne.
The incident occurred yesterday (Monday, April 24, 2017).
The men, who are neighbours, have been identified as 41-year-old Kissoon Balkarran and 29-year-old Gadesh Gamandie.
According to information reaching the News Room at about 19:00 hours on Monday, Gamandie and his wife had a misunderstanding which leads to him physically assaulting the woman. After he was noticed beating the woman, Balkarran intervened which lead to an argument between the two male neighbours.
News Room understands that Gamandie who was under the influence of alcohol at the time became annoyed and armed himself with a cutlass and dealt Balkarran several chops about his body. This lead to a scuffle during which Balkarran was able to retrieve the cutlass from Gamandie and also proceeded to inflict several chops to the manβs head and other parts of his body.
During the incident, other neighbours tried to stop the men but were unsuccessful, and the police were called in. Both men were picked up and escorted to the Port Mourant Public Hospital for medical attention. However, they were later transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital for further treatment.
According to a police source, several persons were contacted in connection with the incident, but no useful information was provided.
Investigations are continuing.
