Mark Benchop’s call for a protest in front of Sino Mall at 13:00 hours today seemed to have been ignored.

Benchop on his FB page urged persons to protest the Chinese business at 1pm today, but when News Update visited the mall at 1pm there was no protestor in sight.

Meanwhile, on Mark Benschop Facebook wall there is a caption which states in part that “When we stand up for our rights, the oppressors must not say that we are the ones who ‘started the fire.”

This statement has been viewed by some as inflammatory.

And the owner of Sino Mall Jiang Ping Ren said that statement made in an effort to silence the Chinese store is just another mischievous act.

The woman is therefore urging the populace not to follow Benchop.

Jiang Ping Ren related that the Chinese Association and Chinese Embassy as well as the Guyana Police Force are assisting them in every way possible.

In addition she says members of the wider society are also assisting them to keep their business alive.

But despite the efforts, business at the Sino Mall has been slow.
