Benn ‘hammers’ opposition, says they will ‘choke on their lies’

MINISTER of Transport and Hydraulics Robeson Benn and pardoned treason accused Philip Bynoe made passionate appeals to the people of Linden, on Sunday, to vote solidly for the People’s Progressive Party/ Civic (PPP/C) come November 28.
They spoke at the grand PPP/C rally at Wismar, Linden, where other speakers included Presidential Candidate Donald Ramotar, President Bharrat Jagdeo and Foreign Affairs Minister Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett.
Benn addressed Opposition allegations of discrimination in Government and pointed to land and housing allocations as examples of how Government does not discriminate.
“Comrades and friends, we must make them choke on their lies when they talk about racism and discrimination under the PPP/C,” Benn said.
He acknowledged that he is referred to as the ‘hammer’ and declared it is not for nothing because, during the campaign, he will be hammering the Opposition.
“We have had a very difficult road...a rugged road to walk all over the country to bring us to a situation where we could breathe easier. We could live better with each other. We could do our business. We know there are still challenges. We know that the struggle is still there to bring a better life for people of the community.
“We know that some days it is difficult to put food on the table, to get the minibus fare, to get books for the kids, to put together all of the things,” Benn said.
He said, if there is one thing about which Lindeners should not have a short memory is the days when persons had to line up for oil, butter and other food items.
Bynoe, who had remained a fugitive from justice on the treason charge until he received a pardon from President Bharrat Jagdeo, said the PPP is a strong party, which grows from strength to strength and remains the only one in the milieu of political parties today, because it continues to open its doors and arms to persons “even like myself who have fought with them in battles.”
He said he is not the only person on the stage that has confronted the PPP in battle.
Bynoe said one of the reasons the PPP is so strong is “because it always grows by drawing close the good persons who the party thinks can help this country and help it grow.”

“What we know is that this is the party that would lead Guyana into greater heights,” he said.
Bynoe said that the night before, A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) held what he referred to as a “rall” and not a rally. “Because the ‘y’ run away, it was a rall,” he mocked.
Bynoe said, at the APNU rall, they “proper tear me tail.”
According to him, they drew first blood and but throughout the campaign, he will “bruise them brutally.”
Bynoe also attacked Region Ten (Upper Demerara/Upper Berbice) Chairman Mortimer Mingo, not only for writing a “bad cheque” for the purchase of a plot of land but for stewardship of the region.”
“He refuses to participate in positive policies by this Government,” Bynoe charged Mingo.
“While we all complain that things are bad and things are rough, what this Government has been doing over the years in Region 10 and Linden is ensuring that they provide means that can take us out of that hole of poverty,” Bynoe said.
“All of you must ensure that you vote solidly for the PPP/C,” he reiterated.
