Trials set for tomorrow at Port Mourant CC

Chairman of Selectors for the Junior Panel of the Berbice Cricket board (BCB) Mr. Leslie Solomon has expressed his satisfaction at the initiative taken by the BCB in using the school system to identify players for the upcoming Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) female Under-19 competition scheduled to start this month.
So far, thirty two (32) participants have been identified, and will be training together at the Port Mourant Community Center for the next week before a team is selected for the competition. A Trial match is scheduled for tomorrow at the same venue. Coach Tremayne Smartt is optimistic that this initiative, in using the school system, will serve as an impetus for the resurgence of female cricket in the county. She is confident that these girls, if properly groomed, and instructed, can move on to represent Guyana, and the West Indies. The Berbice Cricket Board fully supports the Guyana Cricket Board in fulfilling its mandate.
The Players that are called to trials tomorrow are: Tavita Deonarine, Aliyah Samaroo, Varshanie Ramlall, Beonce James, Preya Singh, Aliyah Baksh, Shazana Barth, Alana Nadir, Trishel Joseph, Emily Narsingh, Tanaika Boyer, Keba Henry, Stacy Hope, Sarai Magalee, Sheldiana Bovell, Jonelle France, Amelia Boodram, Melissa Torres, Tashieka Arthur, Amesha Samaroo, Aleema Arokium, Plaffiana Millington, Lafona Gilgeous, Sheneta Grimmond, Shabeka Gajnabi, Christine Quintyn, Marian Samaroo, Rushanna Lynch, Omadevi Matadin, Kassica Munroe, Kimmone Thomas, Olisha Williams, Kavita Ramsammi and R. Lynch.
Players are asked to report to the Port Mourant Community Center for 09:30hrs tomorrow, since the days activities include physical drills, pitch work, fielding exercises and a lecture on discipline and acceptable behaviour from Police Inspector Michael Newland.
The Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) wishes to express its deepest satisfaction, and thanks to the administrators at the New Amsterdam Multilateral School, The Berbice Educational Institute, and Vryman’s Erven Secondary for the support in this programme.
Coach Tremayne Smartt, in conjunction with the BCB has announced that an ongoing programme will be set up for the grooming of female cricketers in the county of Berbice. Aspiring female cricketers are encouraged to attend these sessions, and develop their skills in the game.
