Berbice Cricket Board Second Division 40 overs…Wins for Bush Lot United and Hopetown

The Berbice Cricket Board’s Second Division Season in the Western Berbice Zone saw two exciting matches played in that area last Sunday, and the participating teams have all expressed their appreciation and content to the administration of the Berbice Cricket Board for its hosting of this Second Division competition.
Over at the Bush Lot Community Centre, hosts Bush Lot United defeated Achievers Cricket Club by 20 runs in their 40 over affair. Batting for Bush Lot United R. Hemraj top scored with 67, while B. Jaikarran and J. Dilchand offered support with 25 and 23 respectively. All the other batsmen failed to reach double figures as the Bush Lot side were bowled out for 187 in 38.2 overs. Rendell Bobb of West Berbice took 3 for 43, Randy Wade, Natasha Gangoo and S. Angel took 2 wickets each for 33, 28 and 12 respectively.
Batting for Achievers, R. Mitchell scored 72, Darius Nedd 18, Randy Wade 14 and Royston Wade 11. The other batsmen failed to contribute any significant figures as the Achievers team failed to reach the target set by the hosts, Bush Lot. They were bowled for 168 in 24.3 overs. In Bush Lot’s bowling attack, N. Persaud took four wickets for 14 runs in his six overs, while T. Persaud had figures of two wickets for 30 runs in four overs. R. Henraj and J. Dilchand each took one wicket.
At the Paradise Ground, Hopetown Cricket Club defeated Paradise by 25 runs in their feature game. Batting first, Hopetown scored 142 with Derrick McCalmon 29 and Steffon Adams 52. Bowling for Paradise, Linden Davidson took three for 37, Enoch Carmichael 4 for 17 and Troy McKenzie took two for 32 in his seven overs.
In Paradise’s reply, only Enoch Carmichael looked solid with the bat as he contributed 30 runs. All the other batsmen struggled against the bowling attack of the Hopetown lads, as Paradise were eventually bowled out for 117. Derrick McCalmon, bowling for Hopetown, again proved himself useful as he took 6 wickets for 34 runs. Stefon Adams and Kelwin Bennett took two wickets each for 26 and 8 runs respectively.
The competition continues on October 29, and action in the other zones are expected to commence soon.
