Berbice Cricket Board Under-15 Inter Zone competition… Upper / Central Corentyne continue dominance, West Berbice beat NA / Canje

The Third and final round of the Berbice Cricket Board’s Inter Zone 50 overs cricket competition was contested under the watchful eye of Chairman of Selectors, Mr. Leslie Solomon and his panel, as the selectors sought to identify the 30 man squad to be encamped for training in preparation for the Guyana Cricket Board’s Under-15 Inter County Competition scheduled for February 2018.

Over at the Jai Hind Ground in Albion, table topper Upper Corentyne continued to prove their dominance by defeating the hapless Lower Corentyne lads by 135 runs in their 50-over encounter.
Batting first Upper Corentyne scored 215 for 5 with a magnificent knock of 83 from Vettorie Latchman. Mahendra Gopilall supported with 37, while Jonathon Rampersaud made 33.
Bowling for Lower Corentyne, Leon Cecil took 1-34 in 10 overs, Rudra Goberdhan 1-36 in 9, Parvanand Ganesh 1-42 in 10, Damian Cecil 1 for 32 in 5 and Hemchand Maniram 1-17 in 4 overs.
In their reply to the target set by Upper Corentyne, Lower Corentyne were bowled out for 80 in 36.1 overs. Hemchand Maniram top scored with 6.
All the other batsmen failed to get going, as the Upper Corentyne lads dominated with ball and the bat as well. Bowling for Upper Corentyne, Matthew Pottaya took 5-16 in 9, Jeremy Sandia 2-26, Jonathon Rampersaud 1-21, Rampersaud Ramnauth 1-7 and M Gopilall 1-10.
At the Young Warriors ground in Cumberland, Western Berbice defeated hosts New Amsterdam/Canje by 51 runs in their match and has advanced to second spot in the competition. Batting first, Western Berbice scored 133 in 30.5 overs. Darius Josef top scored with 52, A. Antwoon 31 and V. Singh 16.
Bowling for New Amsterdam, C. Arokium took 3 for 34 in his 6 overs, while Isaiah Thorne and J. Persaud took 2 wickets each.
Batting second, New Amsterdam/Canje scored 82 all out in 27 overs. T. Caesar continued to show aggression as he top scored with 35. All the other batsmen failed to contribute significant figures to the total score. Bowling for Western Berbice, L. Budhram took 5 wickets, S. Rupnarine 3, and A. Alexander 1.

Final Results are as follows: Upper Corentyne: 6 points, Lower Corentyne: 0 points, New Amsterdam /Canje: 2 points, Western Berbice: 4 points.
