She was raped and robbed while awaiting transportation to the market.

According to the police, the incident happened last Thursday.

The suspect, identified as Dineshwar Balgobin, has since been arrested and likely to be charged soon.

Kaieteur News was told that the incident occurred sometime around 3:00hrs on the day in question.

I assume this happened at 3:00 am and not 3:00 pm, since most women leave very early to sell at the market.

Over five years ago, young women on the Corentyne went to New Amsterdam looking for jobs and were sexually assaulted. Afterwards, the women had devastating mental issues and some even took their own life.

If Balgobin is found guilty, he should be locked up for years and given the same treatment in prison. If he gets out of prison, someone should tie him to a tree and leave him there.

The women in Black Bush probably starts out earlier to get to the Port Mourant Market and Skeldon Market. Most would whole sale out their produce to other vendors so that they can get back earlier home to look after their families and work in their farms. It's a hard life.

A few women that I mentioned above were from Black Bush Polder. Some school drop-out still grow vegetables for PM/SK market, or trucks from New Amsterdam or GT buy their veggys. They used to get ripped off, until they were shown how much it cost to grow their stuff. They also formed  a small co-op to share ideas. But its most unfortunate that they decided not to return to school, even with NGO assistance.
