Berbice defeated Essequibo by 10 wickets when the Guyana Cricket Board female inter county U19 T20 tournament continued yesterday at the Everest Cricket Club.
Play was not possible up until 16:15hrs due to rain, and Essequibo could only muster 17-4 off their reduced quota of five overs after they were inserted in hazy conditions.
Off-spinner Plaffiana Millington was the pick of the bowlers, picking up three wickets without conceding a run from one over. Essequibo opening pair of Kesha Tucker (04*) and Devina Byer added 11 before Byer was run out for three. Millington then had Kemonie Thomas (03) caught before trapping Chitra Mohabir (00) lbw and uprooting the stumps of Stacy Moses (00) as Essequibo lost three wickets without a run added after losing their second on 17.
Berbice openers Sheneta Grimmond (07*) and Marian Samaroo (04*) hit off the target in off five deliveries; they were helped by seven extras, all wides.
The morning fixture between Demerara and the President’s XI was called off without a ball being bowled due to a soggy outfield, but hard work by the ground staff ensured that some play was possible in the afternoon game.
The competition concludes today with Demerara facing Berbice and Essequibo playing the President’s XI. (Zaheer Mohamed)
