4) Taj Lake Palace (Udaipur)
This is the ideal place to stay at on your honeymoon, if money isn’t an issue that is.  Taj Lake palace is not only known as the most romantic hotel in India, but also the most expensive. The most basic bedroom option would set you back Rs.36,000 which is actually nothing compared to the Grand Presidential Suite which costs a massive Rs.6 Lakh! This exotic 250 year old white marble structure is located in the middle of Lake Pichola and it gives the illusion of floating on the lake. To add to this mesmerizing setting is the interior decoration of the suites.  Bohemian crystals, ornate glass work, green lotus leaves and cusped arches overlooking medieval gardens and hilltop fortresses make this hotel stand out like no other.

DG, my wife and I are going to India next spring, though I may not consider these luxurious accommodation to stay. I may have to consult with baseman on more affordable and safe accommodation for a month. Would like to go on this trip?

Cobra, I also will be visiting India next year. The young lady in my life is from India and her parents live close to the Taj Mahal.

I plan to spend some time in Kashmir, the place from where most of my ancestors came to Guyana.

Perhaps, if the timing and place(s) coincide, we may have the opportunity to meet in India.

Baseman graced a few of these places.  Entering them is like a Harry Potter movie, a wall between two worlds,  the inside opulence, crystal chandeliers and soft piano music and the other India just outside.  I was also impressed with the Marriott Agra though it's not on this list.

There are lots of affordable stay and eat places, hard to recommend as I never really used them.  Baseman only stayed at 5-star whenever I traveled in India.  If you link up with a local agency, they have lots of options at any price point.  I would recommend utilizing a local agency, they are great.

And don't worry about eating, there are great restaurants all around Indian.  I stayed a Juhu Marriott and many guests would go out to get a state of the local cuisine.
