Located in “The Pink City”, the Oberoi Rajvilas is ranked the third best in Asia and the eighth best hotel in the world. This palace hotel is known for its variety in accommodation which range from luxury rooms and tents to villas, all with four-poster beds and teak floors. With its Edwardian claw-foot tubs and embroidered interior canopies, it is a perfect mixture of an ancient Rajasthani fort with comtemporary Italian designs. This five-star hotel is part of the Taj Hotels, Resorts and Palaces. The Taj Mahal Palace & Tower is considered the most prestigious one in the group. Situated next to the Gateway of India, this 565 room luxury complex consists of vaulted alabaster ceilings, crystal chandeliers, silk carpets, archways, onyx columns and a cantilever stairway. The hotel’s dining options are like a cherry on top of the already magnificent ice-cream. 3) Oberoi Amarvilas (Agra)

Not much is needed to be said about a hotel that offers direct views of the Taj Mahal for practically every window and even some bathrooms. Based on Moorish and Mughal architecture, this lavish property features fountains, reflection pools, terraced lawns and pavilions with spectacular interiors. This is the ideal place to stay at on your honeymoon, if money isn’t an issue that is. Taj Lake palace is not only known as the most romantic hotel in India, but also the most expensive. DG, my wife and I are going to India next spring, though I may not consider these luxurious accommodation to stay. I may have to consult with baseman on more affordable and safe accommodation for a month. Would like to go on this trip?

Cobra, I also will be visiting India next year. The young lady in my life is from India and her parents live close to the Taj Mahal.

I plan to spend some time in Kashmir, the place from where most of my ancestors came to Guyana.

Perhaps, if the timing and place(s) coincide, we may have the opportunity to meet in India.

Baseman graced a few of these places. Entering them is like a Harry Potter movie, a wall between two worlds, the inside opulence, crystal chandeliers and soft piano music and the other India just outside. I was also impressed with the Marriott Agra though it's not on this list.

There are lots of affordable stay and eat places, hard to recommend as I never really used them. Baseman only stayed at 5-star whenever I traveled in India. If you link up with a local agency, they have lots of options at any price point. I would recommend utilizing a local agency, they are great.

And don't worry about eating, there are great restaurants all around Indian. I stayed a Juhu Marriott and many guests would go out to get a state of the local cuisine.
