Cougars Football Club pulled out all the stops to cart off championship honours via kicks from the penalty mark in the Berbice Football Association (BFA) organised J’s Golden Arrow Under-20 competition which concluded on Friday night last at the All Saints (Scotts School) ground, New Amsterdam. Coming up against the previously unbeaten Paradise Invaders, Cougars lifted themselves from an early 0-1 deficit in the 6th minute, owing to a Shaqueel De Harte goal to equalize then take the lead, thanks to goals from Xavier Johnson in the 43rd minute and Reagan Reece in the 57th minute. Paradise Invaders then drew level at 2-2 in the 59th minute through Captain Nimrod August. The scores remained locked at 2–2 at the end of the 80 minutes of regulation time and kicks from the penalty mark were required to decide the winner. Cougars prevailed 3–2 to lift the inaugural Golden Arrow U20 first place trophy and medals. In the third place match between New Amsterdam United and Hopetown United Rangers, the former hammered the latter, 4-0. The goal scorers were Orin Glen in the 40th, Stephen Rigby 46th, Quinn Hazel 60th and Jamal Butts in the 74th minute. Shaqueel De Harte ended as the tournament’s highest goal scorer with four goals followed by Butts with three. Cougars’ Trivette Edwards was voted the best goalkeeper with Paradise’ Aubrey Joseph declared the most valuable player of the competition. Mr. Jermain Sripaul of J’s Supermarket was on hand along with others to distribute the trophies and medals as well as Golden Arrow milk to the outstanding performers. An appreciation plaque was presented to the sponsor by Mr. Shurwin Forde on behalf of the BFA.
