BK Group of Companies has established an aviation arm – ‘BK Air’ – which will focus on providing domestic flights around the country to promote Guyana’s eco tourism.
Currently, the company is in its preparation stage to get its house in order for the successful start up of its services and it is hoping to commence soon, according to BK’s Public Relations Consultant, Alex Graham.
“Aviation is one of those things you don’t just buy a plane and show up and fly…..so were getting close to the time we will have our inaugural BK air flight,” Graham said.
Graham explained that the Company has started with the acquisition of an existing aviation company ‘Jags avaitation’ and currently they are working at expanding their fleet.
“We expect in a very short time to have a fleet of seven aircraft that will be operating out of Ogle and Timheri, the size of some of the aircraft that we are bringing to Guyana over the next few weeks requires that some of them operate out of Timehri, they won’t be able to operate out of Ogle.”
Primarily, the Company will start with domestic flights.
“But we have the capacity to also provide services within the Caribbean region.”
When asked if they would eventually operate flights in and out of the country, Graham exclaimed, yes!
“Once people want to fly, we will fly them, the whole idea is to provide expanded capacity……a lot of our interest is expanding the infrastructure for exploring Guyana so we want to provide a lot of services to people that are visiting Guyana’s eco tourism product and we could get to almost any part of the country.”
BK’s PR said this investment was fueled by the fact that the Company is always looking for ways to grow and expand from construction to other sectors.
“The new generation has brought energy and dynamism to the Company that for a long time just stayed in the construction sector. We have now been able to push the Directors to expanding…..The Company is aligning its resources with opportunities to provide a service and grow the company.”
The cost of this investment was not revealed.
