Black Business Chamber to be launched

Guyana is set to have its first Black business chamber aimed at promoting and sustaining the development of enterprises owned by Guyanese of African descent, the organisation said in a statement.

“Part of its goal is to strengthen efforts at national development and achieving surety of economic inclusion through support for the growth of private businesses owned by Guyanese of African descent,” the chamber formally known as the African Business Roundtable (ABR) said.

The Black Business Chamber hopes to become “an organized conduit to government and other stakeholders in society” on behalf of Afro-Guyanese businesses with the aim of promoting the interests of those enterprises. President David Granger in August, 2016 urged the mobilisation of Afro-Guyanese to achieve measurable targets in keeping with the United Nations-designated International Decade for People of African Descent.

ABR would be launched on Friday, November 18, 2016 from 5 to 7 PM at the Marriott Hotel, Kingston, Georgetown.

It is being launched under the auspices of the African Cultural Development Association (ACDA) which has been hosting a series of planning meetings in recent months to prepare for the launch of the grouping.  The ABR was formed in part out of a need to strengthen the economy of Guyana and by the urgings contained in the United Nations General Assembly resolutions A/Res/68/237 and A/Res/69/16 dealing with the International Decade for People of African Descent and the Programme of Action associated with it.

“Part of its goal is to strengthen efforts at national development and achieving surety of economic inclusion through support for the growth of private businesses owned by Guyanese of African descent,” said the organisation.

The Chamber hopes to create opportunities for self-development and the transformation of villages into viable economic centres. The ABR will also seek to create training opportunities for members and collect, compile, analyze, disseminate and publish reliable statistical data for business decision-making.

“Towards these ends, the ABR will work with all persons, organizations, and institutions that seek to achieve the objectives of economic and social inclusion of people of African descent in the full enjoyment of Guyana’s patrimony in recognition of their uncompensated contribution to the development of Guyana, and in accordance with the objectives of the two UN resolutions in reference and the relevant provisions of the Guyana Constitution,” said the Chamber.

The ABR is an incorporated body and will be establishing a Secretariat with full a compliment of full time staffers.
Future plans include the establishment of sub offices in various administrative regions. The organisation plans to hold outreaches with African business enterprises in the Diaspora “as the organization grows from strength to strength.”

Why would the sale of Bharriott prevent an event being held there?

BTW Jagdeo screamed that this hotel was going to be very profitable and loads of investors were to be involved.  Did they ever exist, because at no time did the PPP provide the public with that information.

Guyana being what it is, it will be interesting to define who is "black".

Even Jagdeo, well known for his passionate hatred for blacks who aren't part of his corrupt cabal claims that he is "black" when it suits him, though he would NEVER say this while campaigning in Guyana on the Corentyne.  Then he is too busy screaming "black man a kill ahbe".

We East Indians have to unite and put aside political division and work together to achieve our own independent sovereign country for Guyanese East Indians, douglas who embrace their Indian heritage and allies of the East Indian people. Anything less than an Independent sovereign nation will never protect our political and human rights on the South American continent.

FC don't worry. Every time Prashad's RED wife yells at him he comes to GNI ranting about Indesh. He thinks that the biggest mistake that he made was not to marry an Indian woman. Instead he has the red woman who has him in constant terror.

There are forces that want the East Indian to remain in Guyana so that they can crush the East Indian people political and human rights. The East Indian people of Guyana will only be free when we have our own independent sovereign country where we have our own military and means of protecting our people.

What does your wife think of your plan to have her renounce her cultural identity, with the threat that if she doesn't, she and her kids will not be allowed to live in your Indesh?

I also think that you flatter yourself that other ethnic groups care whether Indians live or don't want to live among other Guyanese. We do know that many Indians have fled to majority black islands, this when the PPP was in power, so apparently this Indesh isn't all that you claim that it will be.

I like African culture. I can eat Ethiopian food every day of the week. It is similar to East Indian food. The issue is not what I like or I don't like.  I also love the African drum. But the issue is more than just one person. The issue is about the guarantee of East Indian political and human rights into the future on the on the South American continent. This can only be done by the achievement of an independent sovereign country.

What the Blacks need is an Indian business man to show them the ropes.  If they try to mentor each other, it will be the blind leading the blind. I hope the succeed so they can contribute their fair share towards developing Guyana.  Currently the majority of Blacks are takers and majority of Indians are the givers. We need more equity when the Black givers increase.

If  the Chinese are still scared to open restaurants in black villages like Buxton, Belladrum, and Anns Grove then I suggest this new organization encourage Black people to become Chinese Chefs and take advantage of the business opportunities that exist there.  This is not bad advice. This is great advice at becoming self-sufficient and prosperous.

Given that Guyana is the poorest country in the English speaking Caribbean, and for 23 of the past 25 years TOTALLY indo dominated, and that many PPP supporters were forced to flee to majority black islands........what really do Indians have to teach blacks?

Of all of the indentures who came to Guyana Indians are the worst off!  Didn't go through the extreme degradation that was slavery, yet no better off than are those who did.

Druggie what do Indians "give"? The majority of Guyanese Indians in NYC do the same job as do Guyanese blacks. MTA, hospitals, home attendants, auto mechanics.

You really think a lot of yourself.

The Toilet Paper KN would have had screaming headlines if Indos formed such a chamber. Freddie would have been huffing and puffing but he is scared of the latest racist PNC movement in Guyana.

We had this before, under Burnham, and he ensured they were given preferential treatment regarding Govt contracts.  It's same old!

The current CoC does have quite a few Blacks, why do they need a separate body.  This is another sign that the PNC plans to reestablish the old PNC order in Guyana!  But again, they will not succeed in subjugating the Indian business community and the Indian people!

I did not realize the region was so affluent where a nation classified as upper middle income is the 2nd poorest!
