The Blairmont Cricket Club in East Bank Berbice will be hosting its inaugural βUMPIRES CUPβ fundraiser this Sunday at the Blairmont Estate Ground to raise funds for the Guyana Cricket Umpireβs Council (GCUC) trip to Jamaica for the Biannual Convention in July. Six members of the GCUC including its President Dhieranidranuth Somwaru and former International umpire Eddie Nicholls will go to the Convention from July 1-8. The last time the Convention was held in Jamaica was in 2003 and participants will come from Canada, USA, and the Caribbean Cricket Territories. The estimated cost per person is US$1,680 for airfare and accommodation in the Northern Caribbean Island. The dayβs event will include 10/10 cricket with DeEdward Super Kings, Blairmount Blazers, Shieldstown Rangers, Young and the Restless, Blairmont Titans and No.48 Challengers will compete for top honors with live commentary at venue of the cricket matches. There will also be Dominos, Checkers and Volleyball competitions and interested individuals for the Domino and Volleyball competitions are asked to call telephone numbers 627-5215 and 628-6767 for more information. Other attractions are the sales of B-B-Q Chicken, Tassa drumming, Ice-Cream, giveaways and Cartoon Character walk around. (Sean Devers)
