Bodies of six miners recovered from mining pit; Four bodies still missing
Two teams from the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission have been dispatched to the Imran Khan mining camp where the 10 miners were buried alive while they searched for gold deposits.
The bodies of six miners have been recovered from the mining pit that caved at Konawaruk in Region Eight on Sunday. The lifeless bodies were recovered on Monday as the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission and the Guyana Police Force launched a probe while recovery efforts are still ongoing.
The remains of four other miners are still missing. None of their names have been released.

The seven miners who survived the mining accident remain hospitalized.

Mining officers would be stopped by security whenever they made efforts to carry out safety checks at the mining site which is now home to one of the biggest mining tragedies in recent years.
A GGMC source told News Source that “whatever the reason the injunction was granted, it prevented us from doing any safety checks. So we were not in there seeing whether it was deep mining or any other type of mining that they were doing. We were just shut out…until now.”
There continues to be concern about the safety of miners in several mining camps across the country. The situation has become worrying as the number of persons in the mining fields continue to grow.
