Chinese mining company Bosai is considering ending all of its mining operations in the South American nation of Guyana after violent protests against the firm have led to three people's deaths, Mining.com reported.

Police officers shot and killed three protesters who were demonstrating against the government's decision to cut its electricity subsidy. Protesters also blame Bosai for the government's decision, which has meant increased expenses for locals.

The protesters have blocked transportation routes in the city of Linden, the second-largest city in the country, preventing food and fuel from reaching Bosai's diamond and gold mines. The blockades have negatively impacted work at the mines.

Bosai mines gold, diamonds and bauxite in Guyana, where the diamond industry specifically, and resource mining in general, are considered important to the national economy, according to Mining.com. Before the protests broke out, Bosai had intentions of investing an additional $100 million in order to expand its operations in the country.

Baseman when are you going to stop pandering to these foreigners.  The shoe is on our foot not theirs.  You think people give you something for nothing.  Why you think China is building hundreds of health centres and many Universities in Africa.  Because they like Black Africans.  Hell no, it is business.  Our resources are there it is not going anywhere.  If these two companies cannot respect the human dignity of our people then we will find other companies that do.  That is why the Guyanese tax payers are paying the Guyanese politicians. To find companies that respect the Guyanese people and the Guyanese environment when they are taking out these resources from our land.

Yea, and they eat the minerals for dinner?

Linden will eventually become the most depressed area in Guyana if they allow the AFC and PNC to continue using them as political pawns.

Business will set up and invest in stable areas and Linden no longer fits the bill. They will leave if the citizens of Linden chase them away like that are doing right now.

We have lots of land at Abary, some 15 million acres so they can each get their 40 acres and a mule with tons left over. After all, it is their land as well.

That is insider trading. OMAI never made a dime profit in its 20 years and removal of billions of oz of gold. It changed its name and went into other business still holding on to OMAI assets. It bought the Linden property for 5 million and in four years resold it for 47 million to BOSAI. They were supposed to be a bauxite company but apparently the function more as an electric company since they made 119 million in profit  plus tax concessions. Nore NICIL has not accounted for the Bauxite company properties it liquidated.

I know about the Omai shenanigans; but Bosai doesn't own or operate any of the [old] Omai gold/diamond claims . . . or do they?

They can and they possibly do. I do not know. Will have to check. These companies like OMAI and the lumber companies operate under multiple names while they are subsidiaries of the same group.  It is how they pillage 3 world nations.

It already is, hence the problems. This is a fact that you dont seem to understand.  If the PPP tied the rate increase with some economic development initiative that would have created more jobs for Lindeners then maybe it might have been easier for them to argue their case.

FACTS is the PPP is angry that they lost Linden, where prior to the election, they boasted that they would make big inroads.

If the rates needed to be increased they could have announced this BEFORE the election. They didnt.

Well Csribj, you know timing of different events does not always coincide.  This was not a decree, there was the company involved.

For the most depressed area, they seem to be splurging on electricity at 3-4 times national average.  Seems a people with disposable income.
