Bound body of Herstelling man found in wardrobe


The nude and bound body of a 53-year-old Herstelling man was found in a wardrobe in his Herstelling, East Bank Demerara home at around 23.30 hrs last night.
The body of Terry Lakhan was discovered by his downstairs neighbour at his Back Street, Herstelling apartment. His legs were tied and he also appeared to have been strangled.
The neighbour said that she was relaxing at home when she heard strange noises coming from Lakhan’s upstairs apartment. She then heard someone opening the gate and on looking outside, saw a strange man leaving the yard with a bag.
She immediately became suspicious and on checking Lakhan’s apartment, observed that all the lights were off. She subsequently tried the front door and found it open. Upon checking the apartment, she noticed that several items were missing. As she continued her search she found Lakhan’s nude body in his wardrobe. This publication understands that pictures and pills were strewn around Lakhan’s body.
One relative told Kaieteur News that she got a phone call from a neighbour and she immediately left her West Ruimveldt home and rushed to the scene. Upon arriving, she was informed of the discovery.
Other relatives surmised that the stranger who was seen leaving the yard was known to the victim. Neighbours said that Lakhan was seen at a Chinese restaurant imbibing earlier in the night.

Police have detained a suspect in connection with the murder of 53-year-old Terry Lakhan, whose nude body was found around 23.30 hrs on Thursday in his Back Street, Herstelling, East Bank Demerara home.
Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum said that detectives have recovered a computer and other items that were taken from the slain man’s home. A relative of Lakhan’s said that the detained man is a villager.
At press time, there were reports that police were questioning three more individuals.
Lakhan, a Manager at Gafoor’s, was found hanging by a cord in his wardrobe, but police have since ascertained that he was manually strangled.
Kaieteur News understands that a few packets containing tablets were in one of his hands and family photographs were strewn near the corpse. There was reportedly no sign of forced entry.
A relative said that Lakhan, who has a son, recently lost his keys and was to have his locks changed.

Gafsons manager found dead in Herstelling home

THE police are investigating the suspected murder of a 55-year-old Herstelling, East Bank Demerara (EBD) man whose lifeless body was discovered by a neighbour on Thursday night shortly after a male was seen exiting the home with several bags.Dead is Terry Lackhan, a father of one, of Lot 39 Back Street, Herstelling. He was a manager at Gafsons Industries Limited. According to reports, around 23:00hrs on Thursday evening, the man was found motionless next to a wardrobe with a length of rope tied around his neck, while several bottles of tablets and photographs of his family members lay nearby.
The man’s only child, Riyad Lackhan, told reporters that he was in Berbice when he received a call from a tenant who lives in the lower flat of the building where his father resided. He said the woman informed him that there was a commotion upstairs; that was around 21:00hrs.
According to the son, the tenant later informed him that someone was seen leaving the gate with several bags and he [the son] later returned a call and asked the tenant to venture upstairs and check on his father.
The woman then called and revealed that his father was found motionless on the bed next to a wardrobe. According to him, his father was in the habit of knocking down objects around the house whenever he is intoxicated and he noted that the tenant assumed that was the case that evening.
β€œBut after she saw someone leaving with bags… that’s when she got scared,” the man’s son said.
A neighbour related that persons in the area saw someone in a three-quarter pants walking out the street after 22:00hrs on Thursday night. He said the individual’s presence seemed odd while Lackhan’s front door, which was slightly ajar, aroused further suspicion.
Lackan’s son said that his father, who had been a manager at Gafoors for several years, was not experiencing any problems. He said he was in Berbice on Thursday and the last time he spoke to his father was during the morning hours that day.
β€œHe told me he was at work but I realise he was lying, because it’s a norm with him,” he said, noting that his father usually stays at home whenever he plans to imbibe.
At the scene on Friday, police investigators spent several lengthy hours collecting statements and dusting the scene for fingerprints. Neighbours described Lackhan as a peaceful and quiet individual.
A post-mortem is expected to be performed on his remains on Monday.

The Guyana Police Force today said that the suspect in the murder of Herstelling, East Bank Demerara, resident Terry Lackhan has confessed.
Lackhan, a manager, was found bound and naked in his Herstelling home on Thursday night. The scene of the crime was apparently made to look as if it was a suicide. A man had been seen hurriedly leaving the premises with a bag shortly before the discovery of the body.

A man has confessed to strangling 53-year-old Terry Lakhan in the victim’s Herstelling, East Bank Demerara (EBD) home Thursday night. The man said that he then tied a rope around the victim’s neck to make it look like a suicide.

The suspect and an accomplice then removed two computers, an Xbox, clothing and valuables from Lakhan’s home and escaped. As investigators continue to grill the suspect, they are hunting for his accomplice.

Kaieteur News was told that the victim had invited one of his killers into his home on Thursday night. It was that individual, who invited an accomplice and then plotted to kill and rob the man’s home.

The killers work as labourers at Gafoor’s while the victim was a Manager at the said company.

A police source explained that the suspect claimed that Lakhan invited him into his home to imbibe. He said that later that night the now dead man made β€˜advances’ towards him.

The suspect claimed that he was upset and immediately left the victim’s home but returned later with a friend, who was known to the 53-year-old man.

According to information received, the second suspect went into the bedroom with Lakhan and after some time came out and told the other suspect about his plan to rob and kill the Gafoor’s Manager.

The men then strangled the father of one and tied a rope around his neck and to the wardrobe to make it look like suicide.

It is unclear whether the men planned to kill Lakhan before they went into his home or whether it was decided on while they were there.

A Post Mortem confirmed that the victim had been strangled.

Police sources explained that the suspect claimed that they left the scene after killing their victim and went to work as usual on Friday.

However, an eyewitness recognized one of them when they were leaving the premises.

She gave police this information and ranks went to the home of one of the killers yesterday and arrested him. He subsequently confessed to the murder. The second person is on the run.
