President will accept GECOMβs declaration without condition
Posted by: Denis Chabrol in News, Politics July 30, 2020 4 Comments
President David Granger on Thursday said he would accept a declaration by the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) even if it includes votes that his party regards as invalid.
βWith respect, my statements on compliance with the declaration wasnt conditional. I didnβt say if the rain is falling or the sun is shining, if it comes by day or night I am obliged to the declaration of the chairman of GECOM,β he told News-Ta;k Radio Guyana 103.1 FM/ Demerara Waves Online News.
Chairman of the Peopleβs National Congress Reform (PNCR), Volda Lawrence declined to add to the Presidentβs comment on the issue.
His A Partnership for National Unity+Alliance For Change (APNU+AFC) has in recent weeks been insisting that it would not tolerate the use of invalid votes- those tainted by alleged fraud such as voter-impersonation and absence of key and critical documents to reconcile votes.
The GECOM Chairman has already requested the Chief Elections Officer, Keith Lowenfield to submit a report using the data from the national vote recount. Mr. Granger suggested that there was no room for a State of Emergency if it becomes apparent that GECOM would include votes that his coalition regards as invalid.
Declaring a state of emergency in Guyana is not being considered at this time, Mr. Granger said when asked if he is prepared to move in that direction, should his party not be declared the winner of the March 2020 elections.
βI cannot answer that question. I have not heard the decision of the court and I have not contemplated at this point in time the necessity for a state of emergency,β the Guyanese head of state said. Pressed on whether it remains an option, he said, βAll I am saying is that over the last 20 months Iβve insisted that once the Chair of GECOM makes a declaration, I will comply with that. I donβt see how a state of emergency or the necessity for a state of emergency arises,β he said.
But Mr. Granger had hinted at the possibility of calling a State of Emergency during an interview with select media personnel at State House in mid June.
Responding to questions, he had noted then that a State of Emergency is a possibility considering the financial difficulties Guyana is in, the unresolved state of elections and the COVID-19 pandemic. During that interview he noted that declaring a State of Emergency is a possibility in the context of whether GECOM nullifies the election, something that his coalition has been pushing for.
Although his coalition party has insisted on βvalid votesβ and not using the recounted figures, Granger told the media that there is nothing that could lead him in the direction of declaring such, maintaining, βI have insisted on credibility from the start. That is nothing new. But I donβt see what that has to do with a state of emergency.β
He continued, βWhat I have insisted on is credibility. Other people have been making calls, but I know what I have said. I said that Iβm interested in having as early as possible a declaration by the chairman of GECOM. I donβt run an election, the chairman and the six commissioners will determine the outcome of this process.β APNU Chairman and Peopleβs National Congress Reform (PNCR) executive member, Aubrey Norton have in recent weeks been in the forefront of stressing the need for valid votes to be used to declare the results of the polls.
Mr. Granger, who is the PNCR leader, reiterated that he would abide by any declaration made by the Chairman of the Guyana Elections Commission but noted that he cannot concede defeat since no declaration has been made. His statement comes at a time even when coalition agents have gone to the court to block the declaration of the elections results.
βI cannot concede because no declaration has been made, I pay attention to what the popular media say but as far as the groundswell is concerned everybody knows that over the past 20 months I have been saying over and over again that I will abide by the declaration by the GECOM ruling of the court,β he added.
The president expressed his support for the current court challenges blocking the election declaration but said APNU+AFC would abide by the court rulings. βPeople can rightfully challenge a ruling once they disagree with it but once the court has finally ruled then we will obey the rule of the court. So the groundswell is not a legitimate statement of what the law or the constitution calls for. I follow the constitution and what the courts have said and I await a decision of the commission.β
Chief Justice, Roxane George-Wiltshire has decided that the national recount vote figures should be used to declare the winner of the March 2, 2020 general and regional elections, and that the Chief Elections Officer was obliged to take instructions from the Commission.
Don't believe word which that wicked SOB Granger says. He has said and done so many wicked deeds that even a lil picky won't believe him.

While I predicted today's unanimous court ruling, nothing would make me believe Granger until GECOM Chair makes her decision followed by a defeat concession from APNU.

PNC wall is crumbling. They build a house of glass, it was doomed from the very beginning. The forces of democracy stood firm and won. The courts have made is very clear that recount votes must be used for a final declaration.
Let's see if Lolobai obey orders from the Chair or be fired.

I have a feeling that the Mahatma would not have like people like Sir Gilly and myself. East Indians who have African ancestry.
Granger is acting the good cop and Harmon is acting the bad cop in making public statements. APNU must be consistent with its words to save itself from damaging the PNC reputation in 2025.

The Mahatma is also one of my idols hence my quick reaction when I saw it. Sanatan Dharma.
More meat in this story. APNU+AFC speaking from both sides of their mouth. Granger says one thing, Harmon says something else.
I believe they will once again try to appeal to the CCJ for clarification, and once again they will embarrass themselves.

The CCJ will reject their appeal even before calling a hearing, on the grounds that it's a no-brainer, not winnable, a waste of time. And, of course, RES JUDICATA.
PNC is now left with spinning their tires.
They abused the courts and now the AFC PNC bottom house crew have gone silent. Claudette has to act swiftly and declare the legitimate winners PPP and let them form the new government.
I predict that PNC GECOM representatives will not show up on Sunday. According to the constitution, the chairperson can form a quorum with the PPP representatives of they fail to show up for two consecutive meetings.
This AFC PNC rass pass must come to an end. I can't believe that Moses and Ramjattan are supporting a dictatorship. Shameless AFC SOBs. The song about them might come come true. They will have to face Berbicians.
PNC would have been spinning out of control if Moses and Ramjattan abandoned Granger's dictatorship cabal. These two Kuiles are shameless SOBs.
The PNC would not attend Sunday's meeting and when the Chairwoman declares the Winner (PPP) they (PNC) would claim that the PPP's Government is illegal. They would have something to protest about. A recipe for disaster will be created.

Actually only one missed meeting is required for the declaration of a President. Therefore if they don't show up on Sunday at 10 AM GECOM can make a declaration 24 hours later. But I suspect it may be longer because I am not seeing any letter to Lowenfield as yet demanding him to bring his report at 10 AM on Sunday.

Her making a declaration with the 3 PPP Commissioners will be perfectly legal.

Yes! I know that, But I am saying that the PNC would make it an excuse to call it illegal and motivate its base to protest.

By their behavior over the past 19 months the PNC has destroyed whatever little they had of influence and support.

Don't bet on it. After the PNC destroyed the country between 1966 and 1992, their supporters voted strongly for them. Again after they ran the country down to the ground between 2015 and 2020, their supporters voted strongly for them. What does that tell you?
Granger got the word from GECOM, the world wants the Chairwoman to announce the election results. She is going to give it Granger, out of frustrations. She has had enough.
