I am very surprised that this incident involving a manatee and a anaconda did not get any press coverage. It goes to show how disinterested we are in what's happening in the natural world no matter how rare and special. I thought Glen Lall would capitalize on this since he likes to report things that are rare and special.

The botanical gardens, I was told has deadly snakes in the thick bushes around some of the trees. These snakes escaped from captivity and found a habitat not far away. I haven't heard of any incident in which someone was bitten by a poisonous snake in the gardens. According to one Zoo employee, the huge snake came from the trenches outside of the zoo and made its way into the ponds where the manatees are kept. The young manatee in the coils of the anaconda was first mistaken for an alligator, but closer observation confirmed that it was a young manatee.

I guess the press in Guyana thinks incidents like this is not newsworthy since it has no relevance to the ongoing battle of the politicians. Too bad our people cannot get a relief from the usual boring stories that press pounds us with a daily basis.
