[www.inewsguyana.com] The United States Embassy in Guyana says it has received unconfirmed threat information relating to Caribbean Airlines flights destined for the United States departing on Monday, February 10, 2014.

In a statement, the Embassy noted, “Out of an abundance of caution, the Embassy advises all U.S. Citizens in Guyana traveling on Caribbean Airlines (CAL) to the United States from Monday, February 10 through Wednesday, February 12, 2014, to make alternate travel arrangements.

“We strongly recommend that U.S. citizens traveling to or residing in Guyana enroll in the Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). STEP enrollment gives you the latest security updates, and makes it easier for the U.S. Embassy to contact you in an emergency. If you don’t have Internet access, enroll directly with the U.S. Embassy.”

The Embassy noted “Regularly monitor the State Department’s website, where you can find current Travel Warnings, Travel Alerts, and the Worldwide Caution. Read the Country Specific Information for Guyana. For additional information, refer to “A Safe Trip Abroad” on the State Department’s website.”

The Embassy can be contacted for up-to-date information on travel restrictions. Persons can also call 1-888-407-4747 toll-free from within the United States and Canada, or 1-202-501-4444 from other countries. These numbers are available from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday (except U.S. federal holidays).

Seriously though terrorists normally pick US targets.  What would they achieve by picking a Trinidad & Tobago target?

I think that the motives are sinister knowing these State Dept types.

Clearly the opposition in Guyana have moved to the big time as they now can threaten the airlines. Remember the PNC agent who was arrested and convicted in the Kennedy airport threat.

In 2007, a former member of Guyana's parliament and a naturalized U.S. citizen from Guyana were among four people convicted of participating in a failed plot by a small group of militant Muslims to firebomb John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York.

Our BS "champions" are chattering on vapor whilst the tidal wave is here.

This has to be as an outcome of a legit Terrorist threat!

This serious business.

Our beautiful Caribbean is now a playground for the Terrorists!

Security and Intelligence officials in Guyana have confirmed that the terror threat which triggered heightened security at the Cheddi Jagan Airport came from Barbados.

According to the officials who asked not to be named, Caribbean Airlines first received the threat over the weekend at its Barbados office in Bridgetown. “The threat came in the form of a phone call to the Barbados Caribbean airlines office and the person on the line identified the flights out of Guyana to the United States on Monday as the terror target”, one of the officials explained.

Other details were not provided.

News Source understands that the Barbados office immediately  contacted the Trinidad and Tobago headquarters of Caribbean Airlines and the information was passed on to the Cheddi Jagan International Airport and security officials in Guyana and the United States.

The information triggered an emergency advisory from the United States Embassy which warned American citizens against travelling on Caribbean Airlines flights to the U.S from Guyana during the period Monday, 10th February to Wednesday 12th February.

Intelligence officials in Guyana, Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago with help from the United States are continuing their probe of the threat and are focusing on the possible source of the call in the island of Barbados.

Guyana’s Cheddi Jagan International Airport remained on high alert on Monday. Additional security measures have been put in place with the Guyana Defence Force being called out to provide security assistance.

The Government of Guyana has indicated that all steps are being taken to ensure security at the airport remains at a high level. Caribbean Airlines has also indicated that it has increased its own security of its flights as all of its flights remain on schedule.

The airline has two US schedule flights out of Guyana on Monday.
