Well-known Guyanese businessman, Brian Tiwarie has been appointed Spain’s Honorary Consul to Guyana. The request was made by the Spanish government and he received his legal instrument of appointment from Foreign Affairs Minister, Carolyn Rodrigues –Birkett on Friday. “The appointment of Mr. Tiwarie as Honorary Consul of the Kingdom of Spain in Guyana will provide an opportunity for the further strengthening of the existing relations between Guyana and Spain and the possibility to explore new forms of bilateral cooperation,” the Foreign Ministry here said. Tiwarie is a citizen of Guyana by birth. He has prior experience as an automotive and construction engineer as well as in quarrying and mining. He is currently a member of the Private Sector Commission, Guyana Manufacturing and Services Commission Limited and the Managing Director of the BK Group of Companies. Relations between Guyana and Spain are conducted to a greater extent at the multilateral level in such organisations inter-alia as the United Nations and the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) – European Union (EU), Group of Countries in whichGuyana and Spain are members. Guyana established formal diplomatic relations with the Kingdom of Spain on October 12, 1979. |
