I had a sand fly bite me in my toe. It got infected and took months to get better.

Scary stuff. Guyana is a frontier country with raw unexplored jungle with many hazards. People should always remember this.

I was born in that jungle, and know enough about it to know how dangerous it can be. Even innocent looking things can kill you.

Had a classmate suffer terrible skin rashes from this parasite and american dermatologists were baffled until a chance meeting with an south american physician. She still has scars on her upper arms and thighs from this parasite.
