Cabinet does not anticipate hiccups in bringing the November 28 elections date to reality

Cabinet is confident that there will be no hiccups in bringing the November 28 election day to a reality based on feedback from the Guyana Elections Commissions. This is according to Cabinet Secretary Dr. Roger luncheon during his weekly media briefing on Thursday.

β€œThe September 27 proclamation of the dissolution of parliament and the councils of the 10 administrative regions was followed by more recent October 9 preparation as of the 28 November as the date for general and regional elections 2011” Dr. Luncheon said.

Dr. Luncheon said based in updates from Gecom preparations are preceding according to plans and the commission has completed the procurement of all the polling day equipment including the special paper for elections day while overseas printing for the ballot is also completed.

The Cabinet Secretary added that in excess of 21 hundred polling stations have been acquired and some ten thousand polling day staff have hired to man the polling stations on elections day. According to the DR. Luncheon, President Jagdeo will announce nomination shortly which will be no less than 32 days before November 28.

Chairman of the Guyana Elctions Commission Dr. Steeve Surujbally last Tuesday presented a letter to President Jagdeo stating Gecom’s readiness for the hosting of the elections.

The official list of electors was also certified by chief elections officer Gocool Boodhoo and on Sunday October 9, Presdient Jagdeo issued a proclamation, declaring Monday November 28 as the date for the General and Regional Elections.

Gecom had stated it was having difficulty in acquiring polling day staff but gaved the assurance that the issue will be addressed by mid October.
