A cambio dealer was Thursday morninbg gunned down onLombard Street and robbed of a bag believed to have contained a large amount of cash.
He has been identified as Bridgelall Persaud.
Eyewitnesses said he was shot to his head.
He is the latest victim of a gradually escalating wave of gun robberies especially in A Division that includes the capital city, Georgetown.

Albouystown man, money changer shot dead in separate attacks

Police this morning are investigating two murders in the city, one of which is a robbery/murder.
Divisional Commander George Vyphuis confirmed that the first murder occurred around 5:30 am in Albouystown and the victim has been identified as Vibert Samuels. He sustained a single gunshot wound to the abdomen and so far the motive and circumstances surrounding the shooting are unclear.
The second shooting, he said occurred around 8:30 am on Lombard Street and resulted in the death of money-changer Brijlall Persaud, 42 years, of Herstelling, EBD
Vyphuis told this newspaper that the details are sketchy and that ranks have been dispatched to both scenes to investigate.
In relation to the second shooting this newspaper was reliably informed that the money changer was approached by an armed bandit who later shot him and fled on a CG motor cycle. Security persons in the past have expressed concerns about this particular model of motor cycle. It is said to be one of the fastest small bikes and works well for the bandits especially when they are committing crimes in a crowded area or where there is a buildup of traffic.
Police today issued the following press release on the two matters:
At about 0530h. today Thursday February 20, 2014, the body of Vibert Samuels, 52 years, of Coconut Walk, Albouystown, was found with a suspected bullet wound to the back on the roadway at Coconut Walk and Callendar Street, Albouystown.
He succumbed while receiving medical treatment at the GPHC.
Investigations are in progress.

At about 0810h. today Thursday February 20, 2014, money-changer Brijlall Persaud, 42 years, of Herstelling, EBD, was driving his motor vehicle along Lombard Street, Georgetown, when he was attacked by two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun.
The armed man discharged rounds at Brijlall Persaud hitting him to the head and other parts of his body. The men escaped with a bag containing some $M1 in cash.
Brijlall Persaud was pronounced DOA at the GPHC.
Investigations are in progress.

I WAS shocked, angry and upset when I heard (on Thursday, Feb 20th) that my friend Mr. Brijlall Persaud, aka âB-Boyâ, was robbed and murdered by criminals at approximately 08:00 hrs on the busy Lombard Street, Georgetown, as he was heading to seek his legitimate livelihood for his loved ones.
Iâve known âB-Boyâ for over 20 years and I am not aware of anything unscrupulous about him. He was honest, friendly, peaceful, caring and a loving gentleman; he is loved by everyone whomever became acquainted with him. What a tragic loss to his family, friends and the fraternity of America Street.
How much longer are the people of this country going to endure these criminals and their barbaric practices? Good guys are losing their lives, their wives and children and family members are left to suffer while most of society doesnât seem to care. We all need to take a stand and co-operate with the law enforcement agencies and bring these criminal elements to face the full force of the law. I am of the opinion that if we remain silent and withhold information, very soon we may be their next targets and victims.
I hope that professionalism and good sense will prevail during the investigation of the robbery and murder of Mr. Brijlall Persaud. We all need to work together to build a better society and ultimately a better county. My family and staff extend our sympathy to the bereaved wife, children and friends of Mr. Brijlall Persaud.
May God â The Almighty have mercy upon Mr. Brijlall Persaud and may his family be comforted by this goodness.
