I don't see any problem with private people planting barley instead of rice and manufacture barley products for local consumption and export marketing to the Caribbean and else where. People needs to open up to new ideas in agriculture. Mr. Granger said he will done away with sugar and grow Tillapia. Government should also think on this line.

My old man tested all these various crops and certain strains could be grown in various regions.  It will take investment and some upfront subsidies to get them off the ground.  One has to weigh the viability and accessing export markets.
