Police official Seelall Persaud said investigators were working with the Canadian embassy in Georgetown to acquire more information about the missing man, identified as Ian Bailey-Harris.

Persaud said Bailey-Harris arrived in Guyana on June 5 and was initially booked to depart on Saturday, but later rescheduled to leave on Sunday.

He was last seen Saturday morning getting into a taxi outside a well-known hotel in the capital.

So far, no one has been detained in connection with the man's disappearance.

The Canadian embassy said consular officials were "in contact with local authorities to gather additional information and are monitoring the situation closely."
