Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - The Muslim community in Guyana through the National Islamic Awards Committee has awarded two Canadian Muslim organizations for their outstanding and continuous contributions to the development of the Guyanese Muslim community in Guyana.

This was disclosed in a press release from Public Relations Officer Raymond Azeeze who stated also that the prestigious awards were conferred on Sunnatul Masjid of Ontario, Canada and Human Concern International (HCI) of Canada.

The awards were presented at last weekend’s international Eid Fest programme held at Anna Catherina Islamic Complex, West Coast Demerara.

HCI is a Canadian, federally registered charitable organization existing β€œto help alleviate human suffering” by investing in humanity.

HCI has been assisting the Guyanese community, not only Muslims, for over two decades in projects aimed at eliminating poverty, improving livelihoods and social conditions, supporting gender equality and encouraging participatory practices.

It has partnered in the activities of most of the established Islamic organizations in Guyana including the Muslim Youth League (MYL), the release noted.

Since 1980 HCI has contributed over $90 million towards facilitating sustainable development through long-term development projects and maintaining human dignity by providing immediate relief assistance to many poor and strife-torn countries and to local causes in Canada.

It provides financial assistance and supports health care, agriculture, human resources development and relief and public education in 34 countries.

Sunnatul Masjid of Ontario, Canada is one of the more dynamic Muslim groups in Toronto and contributes to the welfare of Muslims and others in general in Guyana every year through several of the local Muslim organizations.
This Islamic mosque off Danforth Avenue at Warden is a Sunni traditional masjid made up of predominantly Guyanese Muslims.

It has been contributing to the projects and activities of several Muslim organizations here, including the MYL and has teamed up with HCI in this respect.
