Two bandits, who trailed a couple from a city commercial bank to their East Coast Demerara home and robbed a woman of a bag of money, were Tuesday night in an unconscious condition at a city hospital after they were run over by a car that was chasing them.

Their identities were not immediately known, but investigators believed that they have ties to Agricola, East Bank Demerara. The motorcycle number has been given as CG 2848.

However, there is uncertainty about how much money was stolen. After the car struck down the bandits, a bag containing GUY$249,000 was recovered and a .32 pistol and four matching rounds were found in their possession.

A  withdrawal slip from Republic Bank’s Water Street branch shows that GUY$740,000 were withdrawn, according to police sources.
The other bandit lying on the road shortly he and his accomplice were struck down by a car that was chasing them.
Police later said in a statement that about  1:30 PM, Jasdai Persaud, 37, was at her home at Cherry Field, LBI, ECD, when two men rode up on a motor cycle, one of whom was armed with a firearm, and held her up.
The men demanded a bag with cash that had been withdrawn earlier today from a bank in the city, which was handed over.

Police spokeman, Ivelaw Whittaker said that as the men left the premises they were confronted by the victim’s husband, who retreated after a shot was discharged in his direction.
The perpetrators fled the scene on the motor cycle, but were pursued by a relative of the victim in a motor car, during which the perpetrators lost control of the motor cycle and fell.
They were struck down by the car and were taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where they were admitted in an unconscious condition.

The Govt. Judiciary/ Justices/Judges/Magistrates/ Police Commissioners/Crime Chief/ DPP/Prosecutors should have a special meeting

to brain storm a comprehensive common agenda to coordinate, plan, direct, execute with timelines to educate all Guyanese that the crime situation across every inch of Guyana is intolerable, this trend must stop as we are going to ensure that no one will get away with their criminal activities, be it bribery, speeding, road rage, rape, murder, robberies, fraud, abductions etc. and the re-introduction of the death penalty. All departments should be linked by using Technology that is available. Many American states still execute convicted criminals, so why Guyana is not using the Constitution as stipulated to stop the murderers and give some respect to the grieving families, reduce these crimes and let Guyana be respected world over. Sheik.

What will happen with this graft driven corrupt administration if the imperative is to execute prisoners?

The front end of the criminal system is broken. Crime prevention is awful. The police are uncouth brutes whose evidence gathering leaves holes for trucks to go through so even the most dumb lawyers make a mockery of them. The cases that go to court take 1 to five years to get to trial and 8 years is not unheard of. We need better criminalizes, crime labs, ethical policing, and quick trials.

On the back end we need, to track violent criminals, maintain a registry of sex offenders and ensure those coming back out do so gradually from jail to halfway houses etc where they can not simply fall back into the same habits.

I disagree with your style, you truly hate the PPP/C your understanding seems to lack historical facts under the PNC, they were the worst Govt. in the Commonwealth West Indies. Their policies were anti-working class, anti-Indian, dictatorial, oppressive and to be in power whatever it takes, rigging elections, stealing ballot boxes and killing anyone that is smarter than them. Sheik.

I am not writing history. I am addressing crime prevention so quit that crap with the silly appeal to authority when criminality is out of control. It is not history but the present

What the hell does the British long gone from the place has to do with what is happening now?

And how from what I wrote above you assessed my aptitude for history and go off on a stupid tangential rant? You are rather presumptuous and arrogant and it is apparently typical of the myriad of intellectually stunted quacks in the PPP purporting to guide us to moral understanding.

You can disagree all you want it makes no difference to me.

He insulted me for no reason. Plus what he wrote as instructive is common knowledge and no one denies. But it does not excuse what is happening presently. As an extension to his argument, it does not excuse the PPP and their kleptocratic government.

That is for Granger and Nagamootoo to figure out, if they wish to be seen as potential presidential candidates.

Have either of them addressed the crime issue beyond blaming Rohee.

Guyanese deserve to know what an AFC or an APNU gov't would do about crime.  The ship has long sailed and for a variety of reasons an agressive criminal class has emerged THROUGHOUT the Caribbean, and not just Guyana!

Indeed I would also ask what is civic society doing about this, as much of this is due to the break down of the family in urban AND rural environments. It is the role of the government, the opposition, the business, labor, religious and other civic organizations, AND the families themselves to craft a solution. The gov't's role being to coordinate all of this.

So what has Granger and Nagamootoo said.  We know that Ramotar says nothing because he and his friends are protected by ex PNC bandits and do not care about any one else.

I adjusted your comments.  You will note that the PPP regime is no better than the Burnham regime was, so why are you babbling?  Do two wrongs might a right?
