By Sean Devers Malteenoes all-rounder Kellon Carmichael last Saturday finally crossed the three-figure hurdle to register his maiden century on English soil with a magnificent unbeaten 105 and followed it up with four wickets to spearhead Goiring By Sea CC to a 38-run win against Seven Kings CC. His first season in English conditions was in 2013 before playing there again the next year. However, last year, with his ambition being still to represent his County at the senior 50-over and First-Class levels, he missed the English season. Carmichael played three Regional U-19 games to help Guyana to the last of their 12 titles in 2007 in St. Kitts. The same year Carmichael also played four 50-over games including the Final at Warner Park when Guyana lost to Jamaica. The Malteenoes player revealed that it was very pleasing to finally cross the hurdle of getting to three figures, something which had eluding him for quite a while. After the openers, skipper Alex Maynard (46) and Ben Cartwright (20) put together a half century first wicket stand, four quick wickets fell before Carmichael batting at number five, played with confidence to finally convert another fifty into a century at which time his team declared at 250-8. βIt came at a time when my team was struggling a bit and I think I was a bit more patient and my shot selection was much better after I got to 50. Usually after I get to 50 I tend to relax too much and then I would get out, but this time I was very determined to go all the way,β explained Carmichael. Carmichael played seven matches in the Sussex league and so far taken 25 wickets. He also played seven games in the Greater London league, taking 15 wickets and scored 390 runs from 12 innings with three not outs at an average of 43.33. Carmichael made his senior Inter-County debut in the 2008 limited overs tournament for Demerara before representing the Rest team in the 50-over Inter-County competition in 2009 and three matches in the 2010 Inter-County t20 competition. He failed to make the Guyana Amazon Warriors which represented the West Indies in the 2010 t20 Champions League in South Africa but at 29 he is not giving up on his dream to play for his Country at the senior level. βI am due to return home in the first week in September and playing regional cricket is still very much at the top of my list,β Carmicchael disclosed. The talened all-rounder is currently the leading wicket taker across all leagues in Sussex and also the leading wicket taker in the Greater London Sunday league and explained what he did differently from when he bowled his medium pace in Guyana or Trinidad where he played club cricket. βOver here you have to bowl fuller lengths as compared to back home and also my slower ball has been working pretty well for me this season,β Carmichael concluded.
